Bio Balls With Miricle Mud

DOU YOU NEED TO USE THE BIO BALLS WITH MIRICLE MUD FILTER BECAUSE I HAVE 60 KG OF LIVE ROCK AND I AM USEING MY SKIMMER IN THE SUMP THEY JUST SEEM TO COLLECT DIRT :mad: I DID NOT USE MY SKIMMER BEFORE BUT I ASK PEOPLE ON THIS SITE AND THEY SAID USE IT. IT IS SKIMMING LOADS OUT SO THE ECOSYSTEM FILTER CANT BE DOING ITS JOB:confused:

Hi nemo - there's no need to shout ;)

I think the general consensus is to remove bioballs cause they don't really help and just add nitrates. I removed mine a couple weeks ago mainly because I made my mineral mud sump into a DSB and the bioballs became redundent.

However, if you've got low nitrates I can't see keeping them being a problem. They do provide a great place for critters to feed and breed.

I see it as one of those personal things - entirely up to you.

Not much help that answer really now I read over it - oh well, I blame the whisky I'm currently guzzling whilst trying to forget I've got work tomorrow ;)
