12v fans in Halide lamp

Im considering adding 2 12v pc fans into my halide light unit, I need to know if you can buy a small convertor or something that can be placed in the light unit and fed off the main halide lead to keep plugs to a minimum? Thanks!

Yep, small 240v - 12v transformer from RS or maplin could go in there. Make sure you are competent enough with the electrics though before even getting the screwdriver out :d

As the man says, also find out if the fans are Ac or DC if DC then you will need a small rectifier to convert from AC to DC,

AC alternate current

DC direct current

PC fans are always DC are'nt they? :confused:

Some of them are anyway, I know that as I've ran them before on the little DC adapters where you can change the output voltage. They're normally cheap enough.

Something else for you to think about though. The bigger they are the quieter they run so get as big as you can fit.

Can only seem to find mini transformers on maplins upto 250ma need at least 500ma because the fans are 250ma each.:confused:

try the likes of curry`s believe it or not, i was in the hartlepool store recently and they had them for sale

Maplins aint the best, most of the time anyway. Try a wholesalers like bonus electrical or city electrical factors.
