Think i may have a problem

Ok you all no i have:rolleyes:

In the last few weeks late in the evening around 9.30ish i keep hearing very loud cracks comming from the tank, when i mean loud i mean LOUD, imagine getting a slipper and smacking it down onto laminate flooring now that is loud, it happens tha same time every 2 or 3 days, could this be a large Pistol Shrimp. Iv not lost any stock apart from a Hermit that i saw which was rolled off the top of the rock by somthing that had very large and thick white anttenas (spelling):o. 6 months ago there used to be lots of very quick cliking but this has no stopped and the loud crack started. Any ideas please as iv not seen anything with lights on or off.

Also if any one has any usefull pics/links to Pistols if that what it is would be very helpfull.:)

if other shrimp is its meal then i dont think it is a pistol, as i have 6 cleaners and 4 blood shrimp, and all accounted for.

Same time each night - you have anything on a timer that switches on/off at that time?

Does the sound coincide with anything M/H going off?

No mate , Halides are still on then , it happens between 9.15 and 9.45, not every night every few days, at first i thought it was the tank cracking:rolleyes:, it sounds like somone letting off a 9/10 shot gun ,didnt think many people would know what that sounded like, hence the slipper and laminate sound.

might be pistol or mantius but if your other stock is ok then maybe not, at a loss maybe somethunbg mechanical as tets says something on timer or anylike like that?

IV only got the lights on a timer, and when they do swith off its not as loud as this ,

Mine sounds like a hand grenade :D well, not quite, but its quite a thump :rolleyes:.


It won't endanger your stock, I actually paid good money for mine and get to see it, Ooooh, about once a year I should think :D

ps Forgot to add, mine "sounds" at the same time every night, usually half hour or so after lights out and if you put a light on in the room when its dark.

Hi Richard i would say that you have a pistol shrimp, or its the tinny dropping out of your hand and hitting the floor when you nod off. I had 2 in my big tank that used to wake me up at 2 or 3 am in the night and was that loud, you can see where they get the name pistol shrimp. HTH Twiggy:D:D
