Iv just bin to a friends house while they are on holiday, and her mum is looking after the tanks. She is doing a sterling job for them, however his tank is becoming overrun with Pulsin Zenia, and it is coverring all his Acro's(and he has quite a few). How can we help to get rid of this zenia?

Just peel it off and help out some less fortunate salties with it, wont say it wont grow back because if there is any left on the rocks it soon comes back again, but at least it gives the acros some space...HTH

Dont think zenia does but xenia might :D
Most photosenthisis relying animals (that have plant tissue within) use up nutrients (nitrates, phosphates) etc. Not sure how much xenia will uptake compared to macro algae but if you are prunning it back regularly then it indeed is reducing the level.

Hi Jackie. Just pull it out like you do algae and bin it as Ady does, unless someone wants some collection only as it does not post very well goes mushy in the bag. HTH Eric. PS Are you ok with it Jackie or do you want me to pop over and give you a hand, let me know if you do.
Hi
I usually have a pulsing xenia "cull" once a month. It grows very rapidly. I just nip each piece at the base and gently pull it off.
I have 2 colonies of white pulsing xenia, originally from a tiny frag that Eric gave me. One colony has now spread about 25cm from the orignal frag. Looks nice with lots of water movement. At first with the growth I was concerned that it would overtake my tank, but actually find it is easy enough to keep it in check.

Hi
Despite the size of the pulsing xenia colonies I have, I find that by and large they are kept in check by the availability of space to grow. ie All of my corals have filled out and there is no live rock left on which they can grow. The culling takes place where they encroach on my lps corals.

To be honest, if I ever get to a meeting, I would give you some, I bin it when I cull it. I just need some live rock rubble which to grow a frag over. Should only take a month or so.

Hi Leon. We dont always have a club meet at Marinetech as its the Yorkshire Reef Club which is run through Reefcorals.co.uk. Our first meet was in Wakefield at one of our members homes, and the third one could be anywhere else. You are welcome to come and join us if you can make it, we mainly just chat among ourselves and look at the tank or tanks that are there and if its held at a shop you are welcome to purchase whats on offer, It is not held at any shop premises for the purpose of selling items etc it is entirely up to the individual wether he buys anything or not . We are open to suggestions as to where we can hold our meets and any thing you would like to discuss or talk about. If you think your system is up to being on show to members and can accommodate up to 20 plus people in your home please put your name forward, and i will decide if i think it is worth while arranging a meet there. HTH. Eric

Hi Leon. If you keep looking in the Reef Club section for updates of the next meet, you are quite welcome to come along and have a chat and look. HTH. Eric :)
I might have a look. I may attend the next one.
