Whats the max number of inches of fish i could have in a 90 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump running a protein skimmer?
Thinking that i may go with a Fish Only setup!!!
Thanks

I wouldnt use that rule of thumb as the larger the fish the more pollution it causes.
In a fish only tank you can keep slightly more fish than if yu have a reef only tank.
I think im right in saying that.

Hi The rule of thumb is 1 inch per 6 gallon but that does not mean you could put a 15inch Tang in there. It s a general rule for small fish ie max size about 3/4 inch adult. as if you look in most reference books it states what size tank each fish wants as a minimum size. IE a Yellow Tang 100 gallon, in a 90 gallon tank i woud say no more than 4/5 fish about 3 to 4 inch at adult size. So 1 pair of clowns 6 to 7 inch, 1, 4 inch Coral Beauty, plus 1 or 2 small Gobies or blennies. HTH Twiggy:D

i think there is difference of opinion with fish only tanks, some say 1in of fish per 2galls max stocking, others go on the size of the fish at its max size and the size of the tank involved.i would just pick fish that do not grow very big and limit the number you put in.derek
