Many years ago in my first marine tank I had one of these and it was a lovely little fish. Have the opportunity to perhaps get another one, or two if best kept in pairs?
Anyone have experience with these fish, as I have read they can be aggressive?
Cheers.

they can be quite aggessive when you keep more than one or when they get larger they can be a nuisance to other fish.derek

Seen some nice small nice ones and was thinking about just the one as I do like them.
Having two green chromis I do know though how damsels can get?

I just have the one and he (I think) is quite big. No idea if he (?) is a he or she, and not sure if or how you can tell?
I think it's pot luck as to if you get a breeding pair or not?

IIRC as male bengaiis are mouth brooders they have a larger jaw and it's squarer in shape. i think the second dorsal fin is also longer.

Hi Andy,
I used to keep a humbug, he was a terror, so he went back. IMO think about something else.

From what I have read and knowing damsels I think I will resist the temptation. Shame they are so aggressive as they a super little fish.

I think Damsels are great wee fish but they are just not suitable for most tanks due to their aggressiveness.
I've been thinking for a while that a tank with nothing but damsels would look absolutely fantastic. Especially after seeing them all in the wild and spending ages watching how they interact with each other. It would make for an awesome reef tank that's for sure. Never heard of anyone trying through - hmmmm now where's that old 55g tank of mine ;)

Isn't there a damsel thats alot calmer and well behaved than other damsels? Name escapes me but they are all blue I believe. Am I imagining things?!

Hi a friend of mine had 200 green chromis in a 17x3x3 reef tank and they looked stunning. He put them in all in one go and for 6 months they were fine and some even laid eggs on the tank glass, but then they slowly killed each other until there was only a handful left. This he worked out was because they could not get out of the way of the larger stronger fish so got killed. All the damsel family are a very aggressive species. HTH Twiggy:D:D

Hi Paul i had some Rays Damsels and they were great, when they came out of the rocks they were black and as soon as they were in the light they changed to a lovely mettalic blue. They were really nice little fish and never fought or caused any trouble, I moved some rocks around one day in my 7 footer and when i came back in about 2 hours later they were all dead, and Moorish and i thought there had been some Hydrogen Sulphide under the rocks that we disturbed and it killed the little fish, my other fish the Tangs were fine. I have looked all over to see if i could get some more of these but no luck, maybe Macca could have a look on his fish lists and see if there is any on it. HTH Twiggy:D:D
