Eric some advice plese,

My tangs

1 yellow
1 dory
1 brown
1 purple.

The purple will not leave the yellow alone when feeding. Constantly bullys him/her. They have been put in a 80 gallon tank until the 250 matures. Do you think it is because they are in a small setup?? I know if a fish is under the weather it can get picked on. Do you think I should remove.

a. The bully or b. the victim

any advice would be much appreciated.

James

Hi James. Its because the Yellow and the Purple are the same species IE Sailfins. I had a Scopas and he bullied my Yellow Tang to nearly death until i removed the Scopas. If i were you i would separate them if you can as it wont get better as its a fight for the feeding ground thats causing it. My little Kole tang harrasses my algae blenny to bits some days but he's to quick for him to do any damage.HTH. Eric

I love tangs too and yours are gorgeous. Wanted a lipstick but decided our tank was too small :(

James, I have 3 yellow tangs in my tank and once I had to sump one of them when it decided to try and kill one of the other two. Was advised at the time that I wasn't feeding enough  Apparently, this is their natural shoaling behaviour, kill the weaker members to leave enough for the rest of the shoal to survive. Not sure if this is true or not but when I started feeding flake more often during the day and nori every day instead of every other day the behaviour stopped and they've been fine together ever since (over a year now) HTH.

Gilly to be honest since I have re - homed them I havent been keeping up a strict 3 day feed. It has been once a night and they used to get on so that might well be the answer.

Thanks

James

Hi Lenny. The Tangs are my favourite fish, my lipstick is about 12inch long and about 2inch wide fat b----r. Powder Blue is about 6 in, Yellow is about 6 inch as well. The sailfin is 8 inch, Regal 6 inch, Kole is 4 inch, Emporer is 4 inch. I will try and get some pics of them all together when they are feeding and post them up. Eric

I have to say, I have seen Eric's set up a few times, and the Tangs are very impressive. To be honest, I don't refer to Eric's system as a tank, i call it an ocean its that big. The Powder Blue has to be the best one in the sea for me though! Got any pics of the new smaller set up yet Eric?

Hi Tony. I have setup a Rena 100 Panorama which is a bow front, going to keep Seahorses and pipe fish and a few mushrooms in it. I will put some pics up when it is finished. Eric

Hi Leggit. They are my fave fish but need a large tank, i am thinking of upgrading mine in the near future just for the sake of the Lipstick. I might go to 48x48x36 instead of 7x2x2 it will be more water but not as long for them to swim in. Eric :)

Hi Kev. I know m8 people have said to me about flooding the lounge and sitting in the garden to watch the fish but i think its a bit sad doing that. It would mean getting rid of my sofa and getting one easy chair instead but i think it would be worth it. Eric :)
