Hi,
Any boffins know for certain if the addittion of Mineral Mud would deplete Mg levels in your tank (suck out Mg?), and if so, would it in time be released back into water, or bound up in the Mineral mud for ever and a day?
Thanks in advance.

Mines done the same mate, after I added the sand and a bit of CC for the mantis.
I think it reacts with the calcium carbonate and permenantly takes the mag out.
Mud would do exactly the same IWHT, but maybe to a larger degree due to the increased surface area.

yeah it sucks all minerals out but mainly mag and after a period of time will very slowly release it back into the tank in small quantites. pros and cons really with a MM system

Magnesium carbonate coates coral-sand and therefore prevents it buffering the system if the pH drops. It also makes it less porous and able to cycle ammonia in things like fluidised sand filter etc, etc
Not sure about MUD substrates but I have always found these products a bit of a waste of time :)
