Hi all quick question the salinity of my water has changed to 35, does this mean that i have too much salt or not enough as usually it is at a constant 32. Sorry for silly questions but i am still learning.
Thanks:D

35 ppt is what it should be:D have you changed salt lately? as some salts require you to put more in to get the same SG :D

Thanks it was just that on the hydrometer it says u should keep it between 28 and 32 but if 35 is ok i will stop worrying :o

its usually 1.026 35ppt @ 25c IIRC:D you would be better of measureing in the 1.026 scale as the ppt scale changes with temp or its the other way around I cant remember which ill try and find a link:D

IMO you should get a refractometer as hydrometers don't stay true and can give false readings
Maybe the salt hasn't gone up :confused:Maybe it is your hydrometer

You will get a higher reading each day due to evaporation. Salt stays in solution and you only lose H2o. So to maintain the same reading just top up daily with plain RO water - no salt.

Salinity is not temperature dependant 35ppt at any temp.
Specific gravity is and should be around 1.026 S.G @ 25'C

The salinity of the ocean varies from region-to-region. However, in a reef or indeed a fish system it is accepted even in mariculture that an S.G. of 1.025 or 35PPT is to be encouraged.
