Hi all,
You may have seen a previous post I had on our TMC V2 800 skimmer (sounding like a kettle) Well have taken back to LFS and got a refund.
So my question is what skimmer would you advise I get for a 150 litre (aprox 40 gallon) rena tank?
My key requirements are:
It works (hee hee)
It MUST be quiet (as in lounge and complaints that TV can't be heard over tank must be minimal)
Reasonably priced (I am yet to win the lottery)
Preferably hang on back type as don't wish to clutter tank up and don't own a sump.
(Other info that may be relevant-have 20kg of indonesian live rock)
Being female DIY is out of the question
thanks all

the name has went out of my head but I am sue it is made by red sea and unlike the classic this skimmer always performed for me. It is a hang on type and you can get them in a delux version (bigger). Once I learned how to prime it never had any trouble. I am sure someone will know what one I am talking about. I would recommend this one anyway - :D

Found it!

Its called a prism and you get them new for £80 If anyone can think of a better skimmer at that price please reply. Another option is to maybe by a secondhand deltec. :D

Something like the weipro 2012 (75gal) c/w pump £65.00 or the weipro 2013 (150gal) £104.00 inc pump would do the job nicley. Cheap, works very well and quiet.

Hi

A second hand Deltec MCE 500 or MCE 600 would do the job nicely!

No better skimmer and certainly will pull out more than a prizim.

I wouldnt go for a poorer skimmer when you will want to upgrade it and would end up buying a Deltec anyway.

Go for it you wont be disapointed!

Cheers

I second FJ, second hand MCE600 would be perfect.

Thanks all for the input, I have an old red sea prism on there at the moment, but it is difficult to clean the chamber and over time has got mucky affecting efficiency (hense the need for a new skimmer). I will look into the other two skimmers, I've seen the Deltec MCE 600 for around £200 (this would be my uper spend limit) but if it's quiet and works then I guess its worth the extra cash.
Thank you all again for your advice.

The only Skimmers currently on the market that I would touch are Tunze, Schuran, Deltec or Aqua Medic. All others will be rather dissapointing.

Hi

In my honest opinion stay away from the Prism skimmers, google search the reviews and you'll find lots of negatives.

The only way to go are the Deltec MCE600 skimmers. If you get a noisy one contact deltec and they will send you a modification part to remedy the situation - so I have been told, not done it myself.

Cheers
