hello,
Here is my sump ..... am not happy with it, Tank Builder let me down (Will not mention company) hence why I refused to pay the full amount for it when I took delivery.
Hence the sump is not full of water. Need to get some Acrylic cut to size and then siliconed in.

The internal pertitions should have been created higher.

Sump is 48x18x15 split into 4 parts.
At the moment 1 part has Live rock in it as im filling my main tank up with RO water ..... 4 days now.
Another part is DSB system, 4 inches of sand plus some culpernia (type unkown)
Another part has live sand in opened plastic bags waiting to relocate into main tank.

Heres some pics :

Here's my sump when new and relatively clean:

And now, a year and a bit later:

Working from left to right:

Chamber 1 - the overflow pipes exit here and the skimmer pump is here too
Chamber 2 - a bubble trap that used to have bioballs and where the outlet from the phosban reactor is. This has an exit into the next chamber in the middle of the baffle so the flow is across the sandbed
Chamber 3 - is the DSB with algae and also the outlet from the skimmer
Chamber 4 - bubble trap which also used to contain bio balls to trap detritus before entering the return chamber
Chamber 5 - return chamber and also the pump for feeding the phosban reactor which also goes through a 25w UV which I don't actually use (note to self: must remove this at some point ;) )
Chamber 5 - is an RO reservoir

The sump is reverse lit with 2 55w T5s I had left over from my old tank. A bit overkill but I had them lying around so, why not! Think that's explained it ok, any questions just ask :D

I have designed a Reef Ranch Sump that in my qualified opinion is the best design on the market. These things are also made to your spec, but also very, very reasonable. I can't post a pic for risk of the design getting nicked!

Example of price- 29"x 21.5"; 16" high. polished, bevelled glass in black silicone will set you back only £72. They can be freely looked at my store.

They incorporate a 200 micron filter bag, a preskimming chamber that will accommodate any skimmer, a refugium and a return section that will accommodate any submersible pump.

The store sump on the reef is very similar and the water is processed in exactly the same way. We only water change when we sell a coral and water that we take out in the bag we replace. It has been running like that for over 2 years now. There is a picture of the sps and lps reef in my section below that is part of the same system. The pollutant levels are undetectable all the time despite high food inputs. Please all are welcome to come and see science in action!
