Just when I though the tank was looking spot on, this red algae starts to appear.
I've been away for a week, so I replaced the rowaphos before I went, but the stuff is still there a week later.
Any ideas? I do wonder if my tank is having a mini cycle after the dinos nightware, and wether this will burn itself out???
I can't see any colour on the salifert kit for phosphates, nitrates or nitrites.

Algae must be the bane of most reefers lives! I'm just going through another diatom phase on my sand! :( Im sure yours will burn itself out, if it keeps growing just pull as much out as you can and keep the phosphate low and it will go.

salifert test kit for phosphates are good for the home user and although one of the best they are not that accurate. Try and get a merk test kit it's the one branded D & D from Deltec.

Hi Greg is it a soft or hard to touch algae, as if its hard it looks like Bryopsis i had some once around my weir on my 7 foot tank. You seem to have quite a lot as it just appeared or has it come over a few weeks. I know it sounds daft but have you changed your brand of salt lately before this started, as a friend of mine a few years ago had a similar problem and he changed salt brand and it all went. It might be worth trying to ID it on google and see what kind it is and then going from there. HTH Twiggy:D

have you changed any of your lighting, even changing a bulb can effect it.this happened to me when i changed the bulbs and also changing the salt mix.just keep an eye on it and see if it goes away on its own.derek

Yeh thinking about it I had it before I think, true Mexican turbos did the trick, so popped up to Reef Ranch and got myself 4 which are now being acclimitised...
