noticed on the TOTM section that MR Tee used some kind of stand under the live rock. basically helps it to look like you've got more rock that you have. saves on the old purse strings and still looks really good. are the special stands that you have to buy? or is it something that you can make your self? if so how?

info much appreciated.

they are primarily designed to let better water flow between your live rock to make it more effective and also easier to clean detritous from underneath, the fact it saves you on rock is just an extra, they are available from the reef ranch and i think they were about 30 quidish when i seen them the other day for a 2 or 3 tier one, but chris is the best one to ask

ta very much. there's me thinking of saving cash when they're actually to benefit the tank! bonus on both parts really.

Koi filter plate - about £5 per sheet from any Koi outlet.

As tetley has already said then use B&Q waste pipe for the legs just make sure you drill some holes into them for flow to go through (unlike i did:() then you wont have to rip it all out later like me:D

i've just made some for mine, really easy, used 32mm marley waste from B&Q, drilled holes in it and cut a cross ni the top and the grid slotted into the slits i cut

These pics are before i drilled it, and it does take a small amount of time for the pipe to get covered in coraline , as this LR stage is about 12inch tall some were for the queen angel to rest at night.

and here it is a few months ago, on the left hand side of the tank, i now have mushes growing over it aswell.

it looks all right provided you can hide the eggcrate and the pipe,if you cant it does look unsightly.i used it on my tank but it looked unsightly, so i pulled it all out and just used reef bones and put the live rock on top of it.it now looks ten times better.derek

reef bones are bits of live rock that have been left to dry i think, so in effect dead LR
thats how i have always thought of them anyways :D
