Any ideas regarding my clown fish, he keeps on jumping over the surface weir and down the return pump into my sump.

I have 2 clowns and its always the same one.

They are tank bred clowns.

I have had them for circa 3 months and they still havent settled into any of my corals ?

suggestions welcome

i was always under the impression that tank bred clowns didn't tend to host any corals. i have had my tank bred clowns for about 6 months and they have never even looked twice at any of the corals i have.

as for weir jumping he may have seen finding nemo, and gotten a few ideas????

Tank bred clowns do host, eventually. My tank bred tomato's host in xenia and my, percs host in hairy mushies and, before it was eaten by my angel, a frogspawn. Admittedly, only one of the percs is tank bred, the female is a wild hawaiian perc.

As for the clown jumping, that's very unusual. Well, I've never heard of clowns jumping before. Is it being bullied by the other clown at all? That's the only reason I can think of why it would regularly attempt to jump.

Can you put a weir comb round the edge of the weir to stop it going over?

Its jumping over the weir comp, but it never does it during the day only at night when lights are off.

Try leaving a low wattage (side light) bulb on at night. Maybe its the plunge into darkness thats spooking him?

some fish are like this, some go into the weir others jump out of the tank.i have experienced both, one with a clown the other with a goatfish.some do it because they have been starled by something others by been chased by other fish.some do it without reason.derek
