drill holes in Fluval tank

I wondered if anyone on the board has ever drill a fluval tank. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

The tank I have currently doesn’t support a Sump, and I really want to move up into this. But cant really afford just to start again and replace the tank and cabinet. So i was thinking of drilling the required holes into my tank for the sump. and Getting a metal frame put together which i can use within the cabinet. Therefore allowing me to remove the center piece and allowing enough room for a sump and equipment to be housed.<o:p></o:p>

The tank I have is a Fluval Vicenza 260 <o:p></o:p>

I phoned Hagen and they confirmed that the glass used in the tank is not toughened :(<o:p></o:p>

I don’t want to go with a overflow device, around the back. Because the aquarium is in the front room and I have heard that they are extremely loud and can flood.<o:p></o:p>

If they have confirmed that the tank is normal float glass then there is no reason why you ca't get it drilled.

The decision you have to make is where you want the hole (bottom or the the back or sides) affecting how the wier will look. And who you will get to drill the tank for you.

gonna look into doing it myself, or if to scary will look into if someone nearby offers the service. I know Chris at MT does tank predrilled, so may ask around.

First want to make sure I can source the metal frame and get costing for it. As will need to organise it all to happen together when i decide to do it. Also need to make sure i have the money available to me, just incase the drilling goes wrong. so That I have somewhere for the LS.

More reading to do, and quite enjoying reading up on the various ways it can be setup. And strangly looking forward to trying to do it myself.

Its not that hard actually, a steady hand, variable speed drill and a bit of patience, with plenty of water to cool the drill bit.

I have done a few myself with cheap diamond bits off ebay.

I was going to see if the bits could be rented out?

The wifes face is gonna be a classic, while i am doing this. She still wont walk under the kitchen sheelve i put up :)

Was in Marine Tech on Saturday, Chris and Buster spent a considerable amount of time giving me advice on the best way to do the drilling and the setting up of the sump. Also what to do with the LS, while i am updating the system
