do you just cut them off their base and superglue the disc to a rock?

had a go today, just cut one off and put it in a breeding trap (for guppies etc) in side the tank with LR rubble and some crushed coral, put a rubber band loosely over the mushroom, will see what happens :)

Can you please keep this thread updated and let us know how it goes, I bought a mushroom colony a couple of months ago with 7 different species on it and it now very overcrowded, need to have a go myself soon

Make sure their is movement of water around the fragged mushroom. Putting it in a fish trap is a bit risky.

Although it does not want a lot of flow it needs fresh water to shift the mucus build up because it gathers bacteria.

When cutting mushrooms (especially ricordea) make sure you cut throught not only the mouth but the foot also. Line the mushroom up so the foot and mouth are directly underneath one another before cutting.

Hope this helps

cheers james, i was doing this more to get one of them out of the way as it was covering some zoas so i havent cut it into 2, just cut the top of it off the stalk, for flow i've put the return from a little phosphate reactor into it so it gets a bit of water through it. do you think that would be ok? i'll try and take a photo later on :)

sounds good as long as there is a gentle flow should be fine.

my mums a nurse so i asked her to nick a stitch cutter from work and used that......she doesnt trust me with a proper scalpel :D proper razorblade would be better, but who uses them for shaving anymore ? lol. i touched the mushroom so it shrunk a bit then cut through the stalk, took 2 slices though because i couldn't get to it properly.

I've found that pretty much any part of a mushroom will recover given enough time, if you do get a good cut right down the middle of the mouth you should be fine - I don't think you can kill them if you try! :P
