Hi All,

I picked up a BIG pistol shrimp from MT on sat (must be 2.5-3")...with the intension to purchase a goby at a later date.

When the shrimp first went in, within 10 mins it was digging a cave under a small peace of LR at front of tank...it cant half move the sand!!...then throughout the day/night...dug out another 3 openings under the same peace of LR...throughout the day i could here the clicking noise which i understand is the shrimp feeding.

Sunday morning...i noticed that the shrimp wasnt in the cave it had built...but had moved to a bigger peace of LR at the back of the tank...this peace of LR is much bigger...and is along hte back wall!

Does this seem normal that the shrimp would move from the first cave it built to another one? would this be due to the first one not having enough food passing near it? Also the first cave would have had a high flow rate around it.

Also should i feed the shrimp?...with my tank been quite new, pod life isnt abundant.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'd say that this is normal. Just like fish, Blennies in particular, need lots of hiding places to feel safe it will be the same for the Shrimp. After all you wouldn't want to be out foraging when some big ugly predator comes along and be miles from shelter would you?

You will have to feed the little guy as well. Mysis, Krill, chopped prawn, flake, he should take them all.
