Hi guy's,

As you may know I am setting up a number of tanks to try and breed seahorses. I have several tanks and several pairs of breeding reidi's so I'm trying to use several methods to ascertain for other keepers which proved most useful in my case. This week has seen the failure of the green tank method however I think this maybe due to prasities feeding on the fry, evident in the way the fry were flicking them selves with their tails.

However for one of the tanks I require some very fine meshing something around 180 micron but open to surgestions (obviously non-metalic). I'm hoping to create a corner section behind the mesh where I can place a very small pump which will feed a spray bar which will gently spray down the glass side stopping the fry from getting stuck to the edges of the tank and also hopefully breaking up the service tension.

If anyone knows a source please let me know ASAP as another batch are due anytime now so would like to try this method on those.

Cheers Pete

Hi Pete I hope you are successfull in breeding and rearing these beautiful little creatures:D ,the under gravel filter mesh net would do your job i think. You can buy it in any size in rolls, its made by Underworld and most LFS sell it. HTH Eric

Hi mate,

I have tons of the gravel tidy but its too course. However I managed to chop out some mesh from a brine shrimp sieve I had.

I no the waters quit turbulant on the pic up I have a clamp for the flexi pipe so I can lower the water rate coming out of the spray bars. Also I have a compact t5 under the tank to hopefully draw the fry away from the surface.

I have two cultures of copipods growing as well, hoping to use this as the primary food source as I believe they're more fatty than BBS which is all protein with the yoke sack.

looks a great little project, like the tank layout good idea. have you tried rotifers fed with phyto as a food source?

Hi Pete,

Just a thought, you can buy pre filter bags that are 200 micron's - could you butcher one of these?

How about midgy netting which is smaller than mosquito netting? You can get it in most camping shops. Or is it too course as well?
