Hi Steve,

Yes. it looks like it has a shell, but not moving - thats odd, you would have thought if some sort of snail it would move to find food, staying in one place, suggesting some sort of filter feeder?

Its one for Macca maybe?

Its a pineapple sponge (due to its shape and resemblance), filter feeder as Ian says. My sump baffles are covered in them!

I'd leave em be Steve, sponges are very hard to move anyway because you have to keep them submerged all the time.

Give it some time and you will probably get some in your sump too. Unusual how they are growing in the light, as Ray said I always though they preferred the dark.

i doubt it mate, these are in the nano, not connected to my tank. they are shaded by the rocks, but not in the dark. heres a nano pic, had a refurbishment since this pic, ditched the internal filter and added another powerhead, and rejigged the rock work about 3/4 months ago

Yeah I know they are 2 seperate tanks, but IME these things suddenly appear after a period of time, you just cant say when! I bet if you created a dark area in the sump, they would pop up in a relatively short period of time.

Got these sponges appearing all over my set-up, but agree, virtually all of them are in the darker areas of the tank and sump. Least they are good guys. :D
