Making Tanks

I am not new to constructing my own tanks, after saying that I am a little grey on some of the unusual twists that come with marine tanks.

For instance, the angled glass that closes of the the corner of the tank where the outlet to the sump is (dont know what to call it). I have noticed that it quite often has a castelated top edge (lots of little cuts in it).

Can anyone tell me how that is done please?

Its called a weir Pat, and the outlet is the drain to sump.

The glass is not glass, it an acrylic weir comb. You can buy them ready made or make your own with some acrylic and a router. Really easy peasy.

You then stick the acrylic weir comb onto the glass weir, the idea being it acts as a surface skimmer for the water going down to the sump.

I know where the drain goes now, can you please let me know what the normal location for the return from the sump?

The pump is usually it the opposite end of the sump from where the drain has come in.

In the main tank it doesn't really matter where the return is, I have mine coming over the top of the tank roughly in the middle. other people have it at the ends or even the sides if you want to.
