Hi all i'm in the middle of setting up my tank it is not drilled so had to get an overflow box my question is my return pump can take a 15mm-18mm return pipe connection can I just add a 18mm flexible pipe/hose to this outlet and run it back to the aquarium and then do the same from the aquarium.
what size pipes do most people use if i used flexible pipes can i install a valve to balance the flow to the correct level?

Yes you can use flexible pipe dont install a valve as it will only flow out what is pumped in so wiill find its own balance. Overflow boxes tend to get air trapped in the U band and end up stopping so most have an air tap on the top to vent the air out. Twiggy

thanks for the advice is this what most people use when plumbing there sump as alot of pictures seem to show pvc pipe work what is best to use?
My overflow and return pump are rated at 3000lph I just taught that since the return pump was going against gravity it may not match the 3000lph of the overflow hence the need for a valve but I wont put one in thanks

I have 2 x 40mm outlets using rigid PVC pipe down into my sump, and 20mm rigid PVC pipe for the return, but with a section of flexi from the pump and out the cabinet to remove any vibration. But no reason why you couldnt have flexi for the complete return.
