I'm a newby to reef keeping & somewhat to electronics.
Currently I'm researching led's as I want to build a led based lighting system for my aquarium.
I've been reviewing the Aquabeam 1000 & their other products as they seem like the sort of thing I wish to recreate on a massive scale.

I see on the Cree website & others that the XR-E LED's emit 10k but the following is advertised for the Aquabeam by most suppliers:

Available in Marine White (10 x 14,000K white LEDS) and Reef White (7 x 14,000K white LEDS and 3 x 50,000K blue LEDs), with or without an AquaRay Control unit.

Now because I'm newish to electronics I'm hoping I'm overlooking something simply, like the voltage their driven at to emit 14k, but I don't think this is the case.
Can any one advise me why Cree state 10k max for the XR-E yet Aquabeam's list a 14k output???

Right buddy, the combined kelvin of the leds will give the overall kelvin this is why theres a slight differance in the white kelvin led rating to the built unit rating

Yes although analog dimming can sometimes create a slight shift in colour, PWM is better for colour stability

hope this helps
