As you may know, im in the process of setting up a little seahorse tank.
Tank is 36x18x15, no sump, no chemistry lab hidden in the stand etc
At the moment, the tank is full and salted up with a layer of Aragmax sugerfine sand on the base (be clever to have it on the rear glass thats for sure! :D)
I have got 1 small lump of LR donated from my mate to help kickstart the cycle and to get a few bits of life in there.
Already have spotted a few pods, tiny bristles, and a few tiny snails happily writing thier names on the glass (can see where theyve been because of the thin film of sand dust thats settled on the glass etc)
Just ordered some Indonesian LR which should be here on Tuesday, so once that is in and the resulting dust cloud has settled from disturbing the sand bed etc, i'll get some piccies on the go ;)

Oooo, imo this is the most exciting part of a tank build. All those possibilities. And a nice simple tank to boot. You don't need all the gizmos to have a great looking balanced tank :D

Would love to Eric, but will no doubt be hard at work on that day! (shame as I could have picked up some snails n crabs while there as I do intend to be ordering some in a few weeks once the new LR gets here and has settled a bit etc.)

Ok guys, heres the first piccy of my upcoming seahorse tank.
Ignore the Prizm skimmer, thats only there while it will be cycling and main reason is not for skimming as such, but ive just used it to wedge a lump of filter wool into one of the compartments to polish the water as the suger fine sand turns the tank to milk when first put in and the wool cleared it up with a day or so.
Only got 1 Maxijet 600 Ph in the tank, and for seahorses that will be more than enough by the looks of it as it had the nozzle mod done to it when I had my old reef tank.
The little solitary lump of LR has done what I wanted it to in that it has brought in some needed life, just waiting now to get the rest of my LR so I can get it nicely aquascaped (nice to be able to be able to rearrange it to get it how I want it without worrying any fish or risking squashing snails or crabs etc lol!)
Also, fingers crossed, my Luminaire light unit will be here this week too! so then I can get some light in there.

Can't wait to see stock piccies!
yeah, planning on possibly having a shrimp/goby pairing too as theyre not gonna be too boisterous in a seahorse tank.
Hopefully, Mtec will have the mega deal on the peppermints again in the future as a pair of them will go nicely too (also poss pair cleaner shrimp) as when they breed etc, its lots of free yummy food for the horses :)

Hi Mark,
Looking seriously nice. :)
Has feeding been a issue?, just thought little and often was recommended, and I would suspect work will get in the way ?

Echo that Mark. I have read that they can get stressed if they can't hang on to something.
Great setup and some lovely animals as well.

Lookin good, keep up the good work, they should be very happy in there :)

Thanks guys,
I did try to post a reply the other day but got disconnected b4 it sent (ARGH! lol)
as for feeding, theyre doing well, as our LFS wlil not sell them unless they are feeding on frozen Mysys and theyre having no probs finding pods and the like in the tank as its teeming with them.
Will be gettin more stuff for them to hang onto as soon as I can find anything etc, but bit sparse around here unfortunately, but they have plenty of places to hook onto as got some nice shaped bits of rock etc.
will post some more pics when I get some more macro's etc.
Will definately have to plan a trip over to see you at MT sometime soon as I was wishing I could have popped in wheile we were working in Hull last week, but we were soooo busy and also it wasnt our van so couldnt really get the builder to stop off etc.

Slight update.
Ive taken the seahorses back to the lfs as to be honest, they looked lost in the tank (only a 3 foot tank too!!!) so were going to be swapping them for a larger species that wont be as lost in the tank.
Will be picking the new ones up on Tuesday (well, Suz will as i'll be at work taking down the large conservatory at the Winter Gardens as its going to be all flattened so one of Cleethorpes's more well known buildings will be gone! Apparently, was a well known venue for the northern soul stuff and during the punk era I believe the Sex Pistols even played there along with many a well known singers/groups over the years !)
Anyhows, will post some pics of the new residents once we get them and theyre settled in :)

YAY!!! Got the new seahorses and theyre MUCH better!
A lot more active than the other ones (well, the old male was a right lazy git, spent 23 out of the 24 hours asleep)
Will grab some pics of them later as got to put them on my pc, then over to the lappy to upload (as not got Internet sorted yet)
