After an idea from ReeferGeek I've quickly designed a circuit to switch of the return pump should the overflow to the sump get blocked.

this circuit will give a 3sec delay once the float switch has been triggered if the float switch is still activated after 3 secounds the the relay will turn off.

this circuit will work on any voltage from 5 to 12v depending on what relay you use

I would suggest that this circuit be powered by a 12v dc adapter and that the relay and circuit be housed in a ip67 waterproof box.

If I get 5 mins I might knock one up I've got a few spare parts lying around here

even as a spark for nearly 30 years thats very confusing John haha, great work pal, very nice drawing and helpful as well, cheers.

Whats confusing? the schematic or the explanation?

Good work john, Did you get now why i mentioned a slight delay on the relay

Could even use a solid state relay i prefer them over mechanical ones

If you have enough parts John knock me one up and let me know how much you want

Great idea, Now thinking we have the main tank safe from over filling but what if the sump runs dry, the float in the top tank will be still in the on position so the pump would be running so we can put a second float in the sump if needed so if the sump level drops it turns the sump float off and if the main tank gets to full it also turns the pump off, Double protection

You mean like this http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C=IS&user_tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxunter038

this is very easy to replicate I already have a circuit for them i sell them as auto topups, all id have to do is modify the pic code to sense for different switch states and hey presto. I even make the switch mounting brackets similar to tunze ones

How bloody much float switches max £10 each pcb parts around £10 then just plugs and sockets and housing, Dont even need a pcb if you dont use a time delay on it but i thought it was a good idea

I was going to start making something similar but I dont think they'd sell. its only those that have had problems would buy them and a select few that would buy them to prvent anything happening.

£150 is a bloody rip off Not to sure why the third float, Could even tie it in to ro top up with all them floats lol

£150 is a rip off but it tunze you pay for the name

you have a float that detect tank overflow a float that detect sump overflow and a float that detect if the sump has run dry (failed auto topup)

Ah couldn't work out why the one at the top of the sump, Only reason a sump would fill up to that level would be a power cut or like you said auto top up but unless that unit control's the auto top up pump cant see what good it is

Just kidding John, you went to a lot of trouble doing the drawing etc and I didn't mean anything by my comment really.

Didint think you ment anything bad by your comment.

I have problems when I try to explain things in text, they sound right in my head but not when I type them,
