Hi all

Well typically my L.Rock and sand have been inthe tank for what 4 days now and shock shoch horror bloody 4 aiptasia!

As it needs to cycle for about another 3 weeks a peppermint shrimp is out of the question so I have gone for Joes juice!
Should arrive tomorrow as I ordered it yesterday.

Has anyone used this before and if so does it work and is it easy to use? it comes with a syringe and apparently the aiptasia will ingest the juice and then die! haha...will it work??

Hi,

Well it will be an ongoing battle, try not to overuse Joe's Juice, just aim to nuke 2/3 Aips per day.

A alternative, if as you say you have no livestock, is to boil kettel remove rock from tank, remember where Aip's hole is, pour boiling water down hole, place rock back in tank.

The L/R will recover, the Aip won't :)

i use calcium hydroxide, just mix into a creamy solution and using a syringe inject it over them and it destroys them in a couple of minutes.derek

Agree with Derek, Kalk made to a paste and squirted into the pest anemone. Guarantee it will not come back again.

Hi bigfoot aiptasia is a nuisance anenome and will take over the tank if left. There move about from rock to rock and move into the area in the tank where the food goes.If you have a fish only tank they are easily got rid of by keeping a Butterly fish as they will eat them, but in a reef they are a bit more of a problem to get rid of.:D Eric

They multiple as time goes by, stinging corals. They are just a real nuisance.#
Another nuisance anemone is a Majano and here is a link to a pic;

Why not burst Valonia (Bubble Algae)? Any one got scientific proof that bursting bubble algae spreads it or is the Chinese whisper machine at work?
I have Valonia and have burst it to no ill effect.
Valonia looks nicer than other algae that it competes with for nutrients (hair algae, cyano).
My advice would be to leave it alone, when it gets the size of a squash ball, twist it and it will come off complete in your hand.
Also, how does a mythrax crab eat bubble algae without bursting it? Whole?
The best thing I have found to rid a tank of Aips is a copperband butterfly.

I had my first one on my most recent piece of rock. I shot mine with a pipette half full of vinegar. Haven't seen him since.
