:-D , Im a total newbie at marines, never kept any fish before. Just wanted to say hello all out there. Im sure I would be asking for loads of advice.

Im currently building my own set up from scratch, tank will arrive soon Next Week I hope, 60 inch x 24 high x 18 wide, and a 48inch x 18high x15 ..... Anyone know total water capacity ????

Can I get 10kg of live rock and 10kg of live sand and and some ocean rock to it as a foundation for the reef,
I also have a V2 1100 skimmer

I am keeping a photo diary would anyone like to see

Many thanks
Mike, hope youre all well.

Hi Mike and welcome, Would love to view your pics of your tank build. There is a section on this forum dedicated to such posts and would be intretsed to view your build on there.

All the best

Hi pinkfish, welcome to the board

Your total system volume (inc sump) would be approx 140g - nice size. If I were you, I'd not bother with ocean rock and go for 100% live rock in your tank. Ocean rock adds nothing to the filtration and just takes up valuable water volume imho.

Try and get as much live rock as you can afford at the start and aim for about 40-50kg in total with as open a rock structure as you can for the best filtration (and lots of flow). If you are adding live rock a bit at a time due to budget, make sure its fully cured so that you minimise the effect of any mini cycles you may experience.

Why not start a diary thread in the members tanks section with...of course...lots of pics as we're a nosey bunch :-D

Hi & welcome,

Echo what others have said - ditch the ocean rock - live rock is the way forward.

Ditto the above, Live rock all the way

PLUS

Just to start you off right, do you have a Reverse osmosis unit to make the water for your tank, or, are you buying RO water from your LFS?

RO water=Good, Tap water=Old granny pants
