Looking for concrete, preferabbly a company that brings it pre mixed ready to pour. Question is how much would I order for a good base for a 16 by 10 ft out house.

At 6 inch deep you will have 80 cubic feet there is 9 cubic feet in a cubic yard so you have just under 9 cubic yards which is around just over 8 cubic metres. Twiggy

barrow boys about £100 a metre they barrow to the plot so you and a mate tamp up or borrow a mixer and mix your own i would go for option 2

i dont mind mixing my own if it works out a good bit cheaper.

In the past I have learned sometimes DIY can be the more expensive option. So will do a bit of digging. lol

the big plan is still at early stage but it goes something like this.

I am converting the fish room into a games room for xmas. Where the sheds are at the back Im getting a stable room built with an ajoining tack room which I am converting into a fish room and filtration room.

What do you think?

the other idea, is to sell everything off and get fit to build me a nice big tank the utilises all the space that my current display tank uses

The stables will just be an outer, will be lining with plastic sheets and having the cotton wool stuff (got a guy coming tomorrow to give me a quote - stuff used for house insulation) as the cavity filler.

Was really wanting a glass room but it has to many cons in our weather.

went for stables as them tongue and groove panels you lean against them and you would fall through them.

Hope you do pull this one off. Means you can hold more stock etc.
Need to think about insulation, heating and ventalation. Will this be a brick build structure?

Sounds expensive.

I've got my garage back, but its only a sectional concrete garage. I did wonder about building a small wood frame inside and insulating and ventelating just that.

I have found through many episodes that the main thing is ventilation and insulation. Wood is more warm than stone so if you can insulate that then I think its better. Obviously it has to be totally weather / damp proof but hot moist air wont condense and run down the walls. Its ok saying get rid of the warm damp air but then heating bills go up. Basically taking it away from the house will mean if it falls down in 10 years so be it. The only thing I keep thinking is a window roof for light but I cant seem to find a way round having a see through roof that is good and insulated but cheap.

Fair point.

Unplaned wood is cheap. Guess you could just treat it, then clad with plastic sheet and insulation. That plastic wool stuff for house insulation is pretty good.

will let you know the price when he comes tomorrow. Going to look into that platic sheets they use in steam rooms that would be ideal for the interior.

do I need lime?

Sharp sand - cement - 20 mm aggregate - is that right?

Ratio

Should I go for 4:1 ?

Tangman

Well get your calculater out Macca as a cube of concrete will weigh thick end of 2 tonne so you have 8 cube metres thats 16 tonnes, take that down to a mix of 5 of gravel/sand, and 2 of cement which will give you around 10/12 tonne of gravel/grit sand mix and 4 to 5 tonne of cement. Twiggy

No Lime just a gravel/grit sand mix plus cement. Twiggy:hurray:

I have just told you, you will have to get the calculater out and work out off a cube of ready mix weighing 2 tonnes, do a 5 to 2 mix of 5 shovels of gravel/grit sand and then 2 shovels of cement. I would think you will have around 16 tonne altogether with gravel/grit sand / cement/ and water.Twiggy PS about 12 tonne of gravel/grit sand and about 4 tonne of cement

macca just read your thread a 3.050x4.9000x.150 pad is 5.043 cu.mtrs at about £80 to £100.00 a cu as a lorry carries 6cu they might add a part load charge but you can pay a small charge for a conveyor belt lorry which can some times reach out of the way plots a cu is about 25 wheel barrows mixing your own is fine iyou get a large mixer as it must be poured all at once be fore any goes off hope it helps alan p.s. the mix is 4x2x1 4 shingle 2 sand 1 cement or all in is 6=1 you should not need any mesh in unless you have some spare the concrete com.is the cheapest alan
