Hi,
Well I am upgrading to 4x2x2 (Softies & LPS)
Current stock 2 common clowns, 1 Strawberry Gramma, 1 Lemon Peel.
Would like a show fish(s)
Now the future addition will have to get along with current stock - must be reef safe - so any suggestions for a bit of (Bling - Bling) ?
Thanks
Ian

How about a Kole tang? Should be fine in a 4x2x2.

the usual yellow tang springs to mind cant go wrong with a YT as a show fish imo, but koles are nice fish...tough question this :-?
A nice Flame or Potters angel IMO - but keep a beedy on them with your corals!

Got a Yellow Tang as my show fish, beautiful, as is the Emporer Tang a bit pricey mind. I think the Kole Tang goes well to compliment a yellow tang but not a show fish in my opinion, I tried it it was too brown it blended with the corals, You need something with a splash of colour.
Heres a contraversial one, how about a juvenile Emporer Angel, is it reef safe ? search me !

How about something other than tangs & angels - a group of anthias, say 3 females and a male, would look great.

Yep,
As said Tangs a good choice - but looking for somthing a bit of the beaten track.
My thoughts (and they are ONLY thoughts):-
Tang - Yellow, Kole
Pair of blue throat triggers.
Majestic Angel.
So keep your thoughts comming.
Thanks,
Ian

It would be hard to beat the Yellow Tang (it is the fish that attracts the most attention in my tank from vistors), closely followed by the Flame Angel and vivid blue of the Regal Tang

Mmmmm, Majestic Angel would be stunning but, as with all the larger angels, are more likely to coral munch than the dwarfs even. Loads of people keep Regal Angels in reef tanks - now that would be a great centrepiece fish.
I have an Emperor Angel but he has taken a liking to zoas so the remants of my collection are hiding out in my nano

Hi Ian
IME Large Angels get destructive as they mature especially in respect of Zoanthids (that’s why my Blue Face is now happily residing with Ady & Annette).
Kole/Yellow Eye Tang. Great work horse, grazes rocks, sand, glass, snail shells, Tunze 6100 streams  for algae all day long even though there’s Nori readily available. Greatly underestimated in terms of aggression IME to the point where mines spent 2 months in solitary. Even had the guts to try it on with a Goldrim Tang about 3 times his size, fortunately he got what he deserved and came looking to me for sympathy (gotta love the character).
If your wanting a bit of bling/something unusual have a look at the Flasher & Fairy Wrasses (Search mystery wrasse :brockenheart: ). No personal experience, you may have compatibility issues if your Gamma is going in first & I think they are a little bit more difficult to keep than most “stock†fish but definitely fit the bling category.

Anyone can make suggestions, but these animals are all individuals. It is literally down to pugnacity of the fish. The one you have and the ones you buy. All animals for their species have traits but within that you find individuals that are more passive or more aggressive and everything in between. General guidelines include any fish of a similar shape, size or colour might not get on. You can also introduce larger specimens or much smaller specimens.
The whole point is that the majority of reef fish start off as mail. A reef is like an oasis in a barren desert. The best food, breading grounds etc are found there. I liken it to a man sitting on his sofa drinking a beer on an evening. Another man enters who is not known to the home owner. He sits down on the sofa next to the first man and starts to drink his beer. What do you think will happen?
A young boy entering the room and asking for a glass of milk or a huge bodybuilder type with arms the size of my leg will no doubt instigate a completely different response.
YES- I have a vivid imagination but I have been around these animals so long I can almost tell what they are thinking.

If you want something different have a look for a sea moth is very rare and reef safe, looks like a dragon.
