Bicarb dosing to raise DKH

Hi guys

Chris at Marine Tech pointed out to me the other day that my Calc & Alk might be out of sync as i've been having trouble keeping pulse corals. My test kits measure 450 for calc and 8 for DKH which on the balanced scales on the internet mean i'm way out on sync and need to raise the DKH. Has anyone had any experience of adding bicarbonate of soda or baking soda to raise DKH? I'm looking for guide quantitys to mix safely without causing me grief. Obviously I want to add enough to raise the DKH into line but not too quickly.

hi l have been useing baking soda and l use ateaspoonful per 25 gals as l read in one of my books i will check up for you it can not raise dkh quickly so you need to add regularly for it to do any good alan:)

The first thing I would suggest is, test your Mg,

If this is low, you need to tackle this BEFORE anything else. AsK MT if not sure.

Hi Ray. If you need any sodium of bicarbonate i have a 25kg sack full, a friend of mine has a swimming pool and he gets it for the pool. If you are passing on your way call in and i will give you a tub full, bring your own tub though as not got any. HTH. Eric
