just wondering if we have anyone who could knock up a 555 timer circuit to control a resun wavemaker to pulse a wave through the tank, or would this be a good introductory project to have a go at myself. would prefer to be able to stick a 12v power supply into it and use the jack that is already on the resun, just in case i don't like it.

If you can use a soldering iron, then these arent that difficult. I would say have ago yourself first, there are plenty of schematics on the internet and the components are dirt cheap from RS.

must admit, i've always fancied being able to do some basic electronics. might treat myself to "electronics for dummies" and a soldering iron. cheers bud.

i get my electronic components from maplins.co.uk, when i was in the royal navy part of my job was fixing missiles, & radars so had to do electronics. my last 2 projects have been to build a mains voltage shed alarm system that only cost £35,00 compared to over £200 to buy a mains voltage one, and the other one was wiring 12v dc led's to a 240v power supply...but as they say, electronics are easy, just make sure all the components are rated correctly and you'll be fine..

just done a quick google and the aqua surge are basically a glorified system 2000 (already have) not controllable enough for the application. need something that can be adjusted in fractions of a second. cheers anyway.

shall keep my eyes open for you, they have settings for sequence for 4 power heads 1+2 then 3+4 or 1-2-3-4 also time each power head is on for and then off for a feed button you can turn all off them off for a pre set time

more like a second, you can see from the video that the pump has 3 settings on the stock controller 2000lph 8000lph and 15000lph, in the vid it sometimes comes on at 15, sometimes 8 and sometimes 2. needs to go from 0 - 100%. there are some wiring diagrams out there, but i'm not sure if they do go from 0 - 100%.

here you go
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=25224

you will need 12v supply runing the module and then shove the poss 240v brown wire through the relay

to be honest you will be better off doing this with a 12v power head then you can control speed of the power head as well, the newave power heads are 12v some hydor ones and the way expensive mp range

sounds good. will need to do much more research, you'd better stick around, i may (will) need your help!!!

good man, the aqua surge i use wore out one of my power heads in 6 months not from burning it out but from the end casing getting abuse from the impeller, my next upgrade is 12v power heads you can control them 0 -100% but not as silly price as the mp40s

same as the system 2000, i used to have aquaclear's on it and it knacked the impellors on them, they used to "chatter" on start up, the sys 2000 is best compatable with maxijets as they have a "soft start", may be worth looking into them, pretty cheap second hand?

shall have a look i put rubber o rings on the impeller shafts acts as a buffer now and again they do stick out and send water backwards though lol

right bed time for me, get one of them circuits ordered might even get one myself could be a good build, its bad now a maplins has opened in harrogate used to be in leeds so never went through as much

also theres esr electronics http://www.esr.co.uk/ they sell more of the velleman kits than maplins do
