I bought 4 new corals at the weekend:- pulsing xenia, ricordia florida, toadstool leather & a pink tree coral. The xenia & recordia are doing well but the toadstool has just flopped over and so has the pink tree! I had a look this morning and the toadstool has slight tentacles coming from the top but its still flopped over. I put them in the tank on saturday, do they just need time to settle in? All water perameters are good and they are under 150watt MH. Any advise would be helpful as these are my first.

Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee,

Yes, very normal.

Just leave in peace, try not to disturb.

They should be fine.

Just a quick note after my own experiences... what are you checking Sg with? If a floating hydrometer that will be your problem!!!

I do measure with a hydrometer, but the corals are starting to look better. One of my next purchases will be a refractometer. (I think thats what its called)

Refractometers are excellent, very easy to use. Sometimes changes in lighting can affect corals, just give them time to settle, I'm sure they will be fine.

I compared readings with both hydrometer and refractometer at weekend. my readings with hydrometer were way too high.

had to lower sg level quite a lot, i will be investing in refractometer too!

Some hydrometers can be accurate and some refractometers can be inaccurate. BUT you can recalibrate a good refractometer and they are so easy to use, for the sake of the extra £20 its worth it :D

Tom you could be right about the light as they came from under T5's and now they are under a halide. The Refractometer is next on the list! They are looking slightly better again today the toadstool looks spikier!
