i thought i wouild make use of my highish nitrates and invested in a deresa clam from roys yesterday on the way home from the meet hehehee.
on the subject off molluscs have any of you peeps out there tried putting live oysters in your system i have two from asda in my system and they seem to be fine 48p each:D

I have a few oysters in my refugium. I also have a golden rope sponge filter. Live filtration! :D

they all filter , so myabe with my nitrate levels i should just keep clams and oysters :D

Clams tolerate high nitrates?? Thought water had to be pristine for them. cool

Clams do require pristine water, even food particles falling into their gills can kill them. They are very sensitive to PH swings etc and some / most demand high light levels. You also have to watch relocating them and acclimatising them to your setup. Yes they do consume nitrates but that does not mean you can put them in a tank with nitrates through the roof. I am sure I read an article on farming clams and the owner used to feed nitrates into the water column from an external source. :eek:

Should be there around 5.
ALways acclimatise slowly to light levels so not to shock the clam. Remember different coloured clams require different light levels. Deresa is a good Clam to start with!

thanks for the info buddy
lighting is all on timers so t5s come on hour before main lights and main lights go off ealier than t5s as ytou would expect but there will be a shock when i get my new bulbs 3 x 150wt 20,000 kas mine are 10,000 k and old
