Hi All,
In a mixed reef - your thoughts please.

Would have thought no.
Too easily stressed with the potential to release toxins. If you have any other fish that have the slghtest tendancy to be aggressive, I think you will land in trouble.
I'm not sure what the feeding requirements are or whether they can nip at corals.
I dont think they are the best of swimmers either, so any tanks with moderate flow might end up distressing them.

Cheers Adam,
Looked at a few sites, seem to support what you say.
Back to looking I guess :(

Bit of cut and paste re:feeding
"Cowfish will eat any of the following defrosted proteins: squid, clam, mussel, oyster, krill, shrimp, mysis, octopus, cuttlefish, and brine shrimp. They also enjoy supplements of live foods that you have access to, such as earthworms, blackworms, ghost or glass shrimp, and brine shrimp. Cowfish should also be fed vegetables like spirulina or seaweed, or defrosted peas, corn, broccoli, and spinach. They can occasionally be fed romaine lettuce, but the nutrition it holds is minimal compared to the other choices."
As for the swimming, if my yellow boxfish was anything to go by, yep, he'll be rubbish.
The number of times I came in to see this little face looking at me with his arse stuck to the powerhead strainer (never hurt him, he just didn't have enough push to get away)

Only a Banggai and chromis at the time, I gave the Box fish to a lfs after a few month's.
To be honest, the stress-toxin thing was always at the back of my mind while he was in the tank. You know, sitting at work wondering if things were ok.

I kept a spotted box fish in a reef tank for 2 years with no problems whatsoever, plenty of current in tank but never bothered it. It was a lovely fish and ate just the same as all my others, brine, mussel, cockle, mysis and seaweed.
