I know thats why i decided on the godiva, but the problem is the wife, she was not happy when my 48x20x24 was in the front room, never mind a bigger tank.

i might look to raise the live rock off the floor onto some egg crate to get better flow round it and in time i'll get some cheato..
not sure if the level of water in sump is ok there is room in there still if power goes off so i'll see how it goes..

i have placed some corals today will get pics once everything settled down i going to try and leave it be now for at least a few months to let everything settle and establish itself....first thing i might add when the time comes will be a cleaner shrimp
then at later dates
a mandarin and a flame angel posibbly a goby of some sort but not sure yet maybe a watchman sand not very deep tho so might have to re think that....
coral wise more zoanthids(colourfull ones)
mushrooms, richordea's and a torch or hammer coral.
equiptment wise i'm looking to add a tunze auto top up,a atc 300 temp control, and possibly a phosphate reactor if i can squeeze it in somewhere...
i had better start saving again bit low on funds now...ha ha

hi there everyone
well a little update i'm still battling the dreaded flatworm
a few weeks ago i thought i had lost one of my clowns as well eeekkkkk i thought
that was untill i checked the sump and there she was swimming about in the filter sock
think she was trying to do a finding nemo...
all was welll tho and she was put back into the tank and she has been fine since
she must have slipped throught the small gap in the wier comb where the return pipe comes out.
today i got myself a new fish
a sixline wrasse its settling in nicely and seems to be leaving my other fish alone for now will see how that goes..
i'm hoping it might help with the flatworms but i didnt get it just for this i love there eyes and the fact that they are always swimming in and out of the rock work..
i'm hoping to get some more corals soon tank still looking a bit bare..
just taking my time with it..
will put some more pics up later

thank you everyone for the nice comments and help so far
i am only planning on adding 1 maybe 2 more fish
either a scooter or mandarin
and would love a flame angle
i think i'll have to see how it goes tho with the sixline i'm thinking now maybe it was the wrong choice but i suppose only time will tell....and i do love him/her...lol
think i'll be concentrating for the time being now on getting rid of the flatworm or at least getting the number down
and stocking some more corals i really really really want a torch coral got the perfect spot for it right in the middle of the tank ohhh i cant wait..
well that is if santa is kind enough to give me some money for xmas...lol

12-28-2009, 02:43 PM
yeah that sounds fab peter i seem to have had a prob with zoanthids since i changed over tanks lost my red ones and my pink for some reason they closed up and decided to not open
the green ones are doing fine as are the purple so fingers crossed for the orange one's
i'm trying to find some blue ones or some nice red's again.
i want to make a little zoa garden lol
i had a go at fragging the mushrooms today so i'll see how they go had a little prob tho one of the halves of the blue one has vanished somwhere in my tank it escaped out of one of the holes in the container it was in.so if the half i have left re grows i'll still only have one (doh)...could only happen to me
when you going to put pics of yr tank up peter?????

a little update got myself a atc300 today so set that up its doing the job nicely
just trying to decide if i really need to buy a vortec mp20 now the other half says no but i'm still tempted.......
cl0wn
01-05-2010, 09:41 PM
everyone NEEDS a vortech!!! scooter blennies and mandarins are good for flatworms. had a plague of them a few years back, they eventually "crash." not too much of a problem. looking good sarah.
earlybird_124
01-06-2010, 11:19 AM
thanks peter yeah i think i will be getting a vortech prob the mp20 but have to save some more mula..
i have started to get a culture of copepods going only started it yesterday so its early days but hopefully the next fish i get will be a scooter or a nice fat mandarin...
as for the flatworm they are getting on my nerves the more i syphon out the next day there seems more lol..

hi - ive tried a manderin and a scooter, havent touched the flat worms in my perc120, i am however getting 2x flat worm eating nudis from macca, will let you know how i get on with them, if they do the job i will give you a shout and you can have them after me if you like (im from eaglescliffe)

yeah i noticed on her profile bit at the side. if these things live long enough (ive heard they dont live too long) your more than welcome to them after me.
we should get a local meet sorted lol. there is one on another forum but its always up in newcastle :(
good looking setup you have there, l like the sun coral I might have to try and keep one, You have a good selection of zoa. you have done some cracking photos can I ask what camera you used.
earlybird_124
01-21-2010, 12:22 PM
hi there ludescotty i did have one of them nudi's before i swapped over tanks it did a good job but unfortunatley mine had a accident with a powerhead..they not very clever in that respect...lol
i only had it a month or so but the amount of flatworms it ate was unreal.
let me know how yours get on when you get them.
also i'd be up for a local meet.
hi Gal the camera i use is a nikon d40 with the standard lense i think its a 18-55mm would like a better lense as cant get close enough to some corals.picture wise i usually take a load and pick the best i'm not very good at taking pics get a lot of blury ones a tripod would help i think.
as far as the sun coral goes i got it after only keeping marine for about 3 months ish...i feed it twice a week a mix of mysis and krill sometimes it get some small bits of lance fish and some cyclopeeze it will also take hikari marine s pellets.it seems to be doing really well its got some new heads growing.
i think a lot of it is to do with when i bought it tho it was already coming out during the day so it didnt need any training so to speak.if it is closed when i want to feed it i just pop some cyclopeeze into the water and wait 15 mins then its fully awake and ready for dinner. To be honest its not as hard keeping one as i first thought it would be. its a lovely coral to keep.
cl0wn
01-21-2010, 12:39 PM
yup, they're fairly easy to "train", i got a lovely one the other week, when i feed the fish, it polyps up, so i take the whole coral out and put it in a small bowl of tank water, pour in some cyclopeeze and golden pearls, and gently agitate with a turkey baster, may well give it a few pellets next time.
earlybird_124
01-21-2010, 01:34 PM
i'm lazy i dont take mine out the tank i put a bit of food in the water for the fish first and they leave it alone while it having its dinner.i'm loving my tank at the mo just having a go at culturing some copepods so hopefully i can get a scooter at some point.
also the other half wants me to get another hammer but a bright green one saw one in stokesly but was 2 expensive.the plan is to move the gsp to the other side and put the new hammer when i get it next to the one i already have they should be ok near each other shouldnt they ???
cl0wn
01-21-2010, 01:44 PM
i would be tempted to keep a few inches between them as their sweeping stinger tentacles can have quite a reach.
earlybird_124
01-23-2010, 04:49 PM
ok so i was a little bit naughty today
ummm i sort of bought a lovely flame angel....
i could not resist it was a good price i think so hopefully it will behave and leave my corals alone the sixline aint too impressed at the mo like hopefully it will calm down....
i'll try get some pics later trying to not stare 2 much but i cant help it it's 2 nice...
not sure if i'll be adding a scooter now as i know the flame should be the last fish you add..
i am well happy with the flame tho have named it elmo for now and satan if he turns into a coral eater..
cl0wn
01-23-2010, 05:29 PM
hope it behaves for you sarah, think you may be able to get away with a scooter as well!!!
Thats a good camera you have there, I think I will give a sun coral ago then so ok to to keep. cheers for the info

thought it was about time i updated this thread
well i lost the flame angel after about 3 weeks of having it i was gutted but decided then that i would not get another flame angel
however i decided i would like to keep a angel of some sort so opted for the coral beauty
so a few days ago i went and picked up my new angel only to have her attacked by the sixline wrasse as soon as she was let out of the bag (i say she but she could be a he...lol).
the sixline had taken a chunk out of the top of her head and split all her tail...i caught the coral beauty and sumped her...i really didnt want to take her back to the shop as she was a gift for my 30th birthday...so i made the decision to remove the sixline wrasse and believe me he took some catching but catch him we did and without destroying the tank lol..
so mr sixline went to the lfs this morning and i came home with a nice new cleaner shrimp who is currently sat in his bag acclimatising.

a update i lost the shrimp 2 days after he went in the tank
i have now got a yellow tang,i know my tank is going to be 2 small for him once he gets to full size so i plan to move him on and replace him for a kole tang.
i also recently purchased a mandarin he is a little bit skinny but hopefully i can feed him up a bit.i have 3 cultures of copepods on the go and also have some freeze dried copepods and plenty of other food to keep him going if he will start to eat it i'm trying to target feed him.
i have had to move my sun coral into the sump because the female clown decided she would use it as a host it has been in the sump for some time now when i tried to re introduce it back to the tank the female went straight to it like it was her long lost friend so back to the sump for the sun coral it was..not sure what im going to do about this im hoping mrs clown will host in something else.
im having problems with red slime algae at the moment

a little update
i moved the tank today from one side of the room to the other and i did it all on me todd...lol took a few hours but its done now....the reason for the move is i'm upgrading
so had to move the tank so i can get my new one in when it arrives and had nothing better to do this weekend...lol new tank wont be here for a while but thought it was best to move current tank now and let it settle a bit before the move to the new tank. i purchased a yellow tang a few months back and could not bare to part with him/her so thats part of the reason for a upgrade.
new tank when it arrives will be 56x20x24 it will be another godiva.
i'm pooped now need a pint lol...
i'll start a new thread when my new tank get here.
