Hi all you DIYers out there, love making your own stands, but then get stuck with where to get your High Gloss cladding, wood effect cladding, doors, hinges and handles etc? ACS is considering providing materials for people in order for them to create a professional finish to their handywork. Please post your thoughts as to whether this would be a service you would like from ACS. Stand designs may also be available so that cladding can be ordered for a perfect standardised fit. So if you have the time , fancy making your own stand, have the skills, but not sure where to get the professional materials used in the trade by manufacturers, post up your interest in the service that may be available from ACS and let me know whether its something that we can offer. :)

That's a great idea, would you be cutting to size too as the problem i have always had as a diyer is chipping the edges when cutting laminates:frown:

lol ROB, i'll need to gauge interest first but yes if it seems it would be a service that would be used by enough hobbyists then I'll speak to the retailers and work out a price list. The fairest way to price the required cladding would be by total square metreage required (m2) i think. No offence to the DIYers on the forums I sponsor, but I often see really good stands they create but then the final finish dosnt seem to reflect all the planning and inspiration I know goes into their projects and it I know it often isnt down to their lack of skill or care, but simply they are trying to work with materials not cut to fit or simply not being ble to source the materials manufacturers have at their disposal. I just see this as another way ACS could make even more hobbyists have a cabinet they really want to own and not have to just settle for what is available from the manufacturers because it would be too hard to create the look or finish they have from mass production. :)

I know exactly what you mean I would say my diy skills are a bit above average,
but as you say the finish can as you say let the project down just through an end cut not being as good as it should looks like you got a good idea going here please follow it up as you said even if you want handles hinges or soft closers I would rather buy from someone such as yourself rather than go to the big diy stores,

I just see this as another way ACS could help even more hobbyists have a cabinet they really want to own and not have to just settle for what is available from the large manufacturers because it would be too hard to create the look or finish they have from mass production. As an example of the sheer scope of the full extent of choice, there is well over 100 finishes available in laminate board, over 40 gloss vinyl wrapped colours and 1000's of different doors available from manufacturers within the industry. Yet most aquarium cabinet manufacturers only offer 5 or 10 different colours. I think the hobbyists deserve more choice for their hard earnt money, even those that want to put their heart and soul into a project, so they can sit back and say " I did that ! " :)
