hi timo that looks the muts nuts you must be good with the old google lol:)
Thanks, I use a different CAD system for work everyday so it was kinda easy to get the hang of Sketchup. I like Sketchup becasue its a free CAD program and the price of solidworks etc is way too much.
Also selling the 48x18x24 10mm glass with acrylic sump and wooden cabinet but no equipment for about £120 when I get the new tank in if anyone's interested :D

That looks like an awesome set up Timo !
What materials are you using for the cabinet and will it be constructed or cladded onto a metal or wood frame?

I still haven't totally made my mine up on what material the black outer will be. It will have a thick wooden base which will hold all the weight of the tank and then I was thinking about black acrylic panels covering it which will all be removable so I can get to any part of the sump easier. I know the acrylic panels will be expensive so they could end up wood painted black if I'm skint by then lol.
If I do make the front one piece I will make it removable but also bottom hinge it to make it easy quick access to the sump (skimmer cup etc) without having to take the hole front off, well that's the idea I just have to make it now

Could I make a suggestion? if you made the frame out of steel, you would gain more room in sump area as thick wood wouldnt be used, no centre support needed and also the front when hinged at the bottom, when it is ' open ' would that mean you would be kneeling on the inside of the door to get into the sump? If its acrylic this would cause the outside to get scratched and also maybe damage the hinge?

Good idea but the only prob with a steel frame is that it wont fit through the door. Gone back to more conventional front door opening with 2 doors side hinged. Got a few other materials inline for the black just need to see a few samples before I get it.
A wheelie good idea I got off the zeovit forum :D

Hey that's a fantastic idea Timo !
u could put glass shelf brackets on the sides of the compartments so you could put glass covers on them b4 moving the 'sump trolley' that would prevent the water from sloshing around as clown said :)
If you need any samples for the high gloss finish you like ask paul at fitfiltration and I can sort some out for you :):goodjob:

Yes pipe work will be with it you will just need to stick a pump on the end of the flexi pipe in the sump. Rough guess I should have it all moved over in 5/6 weeks time.

ok mate if you could let me no when its all sorted i can pm you my number if thats better for ya :)
Yes m8 pm your number and I will keep it safe just in case the site goes off or something. There is also an old skimmer body you can for nothing if you want, I used to use it on the tank with deltec pinwheel pump but this broke and I ended up buying a new skimmer so it just needs a pump. I few other bits of soft corals you can have some for free I you want because I'm not having any soft corals in my new tank.

Its not ready for a FTS yet really until I shut the old tank down. This is running on temp equipment and the gear on the left wont be there when its finished. All the glass could do with a good clean but my hands have been wet to many times this weekend lol. Their is also a little KN snow in there :D
Still messing about trying to get the flow sorted, its quite easy this shape to get it to make swirling circle movement but I rarely want it to have alternating left to right or side to side random movement. Now thinking a Polario on the left hand side panel could do this

Looking great now it's wet Timo. This is a link to a vid of a polario by Screwloose who's on this forum but also has a tank thread on the darkside for his 6x2x2. It shows the flow better than any other vid I've seen and whilst he ended up swapping it for a pair of Vortechs he was still impressed with it. Eric swears by his. :D You'd deffo get random movement and very unlikely you'd have any dead spots.

Updates
Polario;
Polario is ok, at first I really didn't think it was going to work with the tank and I would have to sell it and get 1 or 2 Vortechs but I played and changed the setting form 15 to 30 seconds and the flow around the tank is much better.
It's a tad on the large size but now it's been in a few days I'm getting used to it and don't really notice it now.
The clams in the tank don't like it. One moved it self and I moved one this morning because it was not doing to well in the new flow.
Whines I little when running but very quiet and its not a bad whine at all not like them cheap Chinese fake pumps that make a really annoying noise.
It does make a funny knocking noise when it changes direction, I take it that's normal???
Fish;
Fish are in :) and settling down. 3 yellow tangs from coral cultivations and the rest from the old tank.

I have to go out in an hour and don't want to leave now plus the other tangs keep swimming around the closed up clam :frown:
The tang is out now but just staying at the back of the tank. I hope I don't loose anything or I will be :crying::crying::crying:

Shouldnt make any knocking noises with direction change. Did you get the 22k version?.
I also set mine on the 30sec mode, gives nicer flow.

Yes its the 22k version Neil. As it starts it makes like small knock nose but it does seem to be doing it less the longer its been on perhaps it needs a few days to run in.

No the clam closed grabbing the tang in its grip. I managed to prise it open with a screwdriver and get the fish out. I have heard of this happening with Angels before but not clams. I am guessing the tang was picking at the clam and it closed in defence trapping the tang by the nose.

The bulbs are a bit yellow but if you can use the with blue tubes. On RC one guy uses 6 ATi blue+ and two 6500k bulbs and it looks quite good. Its a very wide unit so measure and make sure it will fit your new tank.

Clam has a little damage to top of the shell in the centre from the screwdriver but is extending its mantel but not fully extending yet.

It was going to be all ocean rock but ended up putting on lump of live rock in as well, it was just easier because its covered in corals.
2 main bommies are ocean and one LR behind one of them.

BarryI just pic them off with a pair of tweezers at night when they come out. Took the clams out at night and cleaned most off but still see the odd one, which if I can be bothered at the time I get out.
Sad news I lost my Majestic Angel last weekend :( He was covered in velvet for a week before I lost him. Also one of the yellow tanks has velvet :( but is currently not as bad as the Angel was..
Also many of my monti's have been eaten by what I thought where monti eating nudi's but now I think they may be snails eating them http://www.meerwasser-lexikon.de/tiere/1132_Phyllodesmium_sp.%2004.htm and not nudi's.

Yes it takes most meat frozen foods. I have just fed it a cube of chopped cockle. I feed it about once a week with cockle, mysis or red plankton by ON. Defrost then squirt close with a turkey baser.

Will have to pop and take a butchers to see it in the flesh one day (maybe when I can bend the Mrs arm so i can get a few fraggies hehehe) as waiting a bit as still battling hair aglae that dosnt want to shift even though I am slowly winning (yay! lol)
The frags ive got are pretty pale similar to yours as im using Zeo too but only dosing the basic 4 + sponge power at the mo (not dosing food7 with still having hair algae)

Oooo nice :D (frags that is not your coral moving accident i mean hehe)
I did pick up a frag from Victor st last week as wanted to see how it goes as my other frags are all doing ok and wanted to see what colour it changes to from the seriously brown colour it was(is) in the shop lol! only had it since last thursday i think it was and already can see some green shimmering through the murk of brown, so i can see the zeo is working nicely, just the bain to all marine keepers in the hair algae but thats growing REALLY slowly now so im hoping it might be starting to struggle.
I do have a quick Q for you, been reading about coral snow and know a lot use it for removing cyano etc and was wondering if its a beneficial addition just for the corals wellbeen etc? as I dont have cyano lol (well thats one annoying problem I got rid of!!!)

Yes CS is one of my fav KZ products which they my make. My bottle ran out about 6 weeks ago and I have noticed the difference so much I got a new bottle this morning. About 1ml per 100L once or twice a week is all you need to spur SPS into growth.
That frag came out of my tank I think, I sold Laura a few SPS frags. It will/should turn Maroon red or dark green but sounds like my dark green Staghorn Coral (Acropora cervicornis) which is a good strong fast grower :D
Stay off the food7 until your tank is hair algae free. Also try to cut your Start2 to twice a day if you have the time (half dose).
Do you have a tank thread Mark?

Cool, the frag I got has got a reddish hue to it but im pretty sure its looking sort of green underneith etc, time will tell hehehe....
Will have to see about getting some CS as soon as I can, cheers for that nice bit of info :)
I keep my food 7 in the cupboard while ive got the dreaded plague lol, and currently dose 0.1ml of start2 twice a day (was at 0.05ml 2xday until a couple of days ago to test to see if it spurs the bacteria into gear a bit more now ive ripped out most of the hair algae so it outcompetes it (did find a thread on the zeo forum where aged salt said to someone to reduce the start2 as they can become 'lazy' with too much start2, but will keep at 0.1 2xday for a week as a test bed for mine)
Just added a tank thread, not many pics etc and still looks a bit nasty, but its getting there slowly. (Not got pic of the frag I mentioned about as its still on the memory card in the camera at the mo lol)

Time for a change, added some biologically degradable polymer pellets and removed the zeo stones.

Hi Timo,
Just watched the video and I presume that was you wafting them back and forth? hehehe...
I remember seeing on another forum someones video of thier pellets and they were going round like they were in a tornado.
No idea if they need to be as never looked into the bio pellets much so just thought id mention it in case there might be a bit of different info for you etc. (I beleive it was on RP and not the dark side everyone moans about LOL!!!!)
Mark.
The main reason to keep them moving is to prevent production of hydrogen sulphide gas. The same thing happens with zeo stones if you don't shake them and has wiped some very nice tanks out. I have seen some around the net with crazy flow through them I I'm trying to maintain a slow boil effect in my rector which just keeps the moving and swish them once in a while with the cleaning stick.
I am now noticing some massive polyp extension on the SPS and they are starting to look happy again after some slight RTN on the bases of one or two after the change over.

I'm quoting myself strange, lol. Well I went back to carbon dosing this week after trying different pellets for nearly a year now and I think the tank is looking a little better so I'm back carbon dosing but this time it's using a dosing pump which I have finally got working :D
I liked the D&D pellets the best but they didn't seem to last as long as the NP pellets. I never tried the biopeal pellets they was always a tad to expensive.
Hope your all well Timo :)

Nice to see you back Si but wheres the pics as a thread is no good without pics, hope your going to stay around as we have Bob Fenner going to be having a chat with us on here at the end of the month. Twiggy
Defiantly up for the chat with Bob Fenner, will have a scout around for the thread. Might be able to get some pics at the weekend but the tank has been a little neglected over the past few months as I have been working away etc. My heating controller messed up in the winter and the tank ran with no heaters on and got to very low temperatures in the night and I lost a lot of my nice SPS in the extreme winter we had this year which was a very low point for me. Then the snow knocked off the gutters and put a big hole in my roof. It's nice and warm now, the hole in the roof is fixed and a lot of the corals I had left have grown into the empty spaces made from removing the dead sticks so it's not all bad and things are getting better. Good to see your still here Eric, Timo

Have I re-meshed it, I'm always re-meshing it lol. Only last week it stopped working so I opened the pump and the mesh was totally ripped off. The skimmer is like an exotic sports car, fantastic when it's working and expensive and a pain to fix when its not. That said I wouldn't swap it m8.

The tank will have been running 2 years this July (wow I'm amazed it's that old). Most of the corals in that picture were bought as small frags.

looks outstanding timo, should be very pleased with yourself. what's your maintainance regimen?
At the minute the only thing set in stone is 1.4ml of start2 per day, dosed at midnight by a 1 minute timed peristaltic pump dose. My mag is way low now so soon I will be daliy dosing (as soon as it turns up from ebay). Water changes are going to be once a month, after water change active carbon removed and changed with 100g of new AC. Sponge power 3-4 drops once or twice a week. Zeozym every Sunday morning 1/2 a spoon mix with 1ltr RO. I don't think I'm going to change the zeolites very often (if at all) but they are good bacteria hosts for the carbon source so the reactor will be left running in the sump.
Slight change to the dosing I'm going to start adding 1ml of Xtra every other day from now on, any algae problem and I will stop this.
A quick pic straight from the iphone cos I know you all like pics.

Mask and flippers are in the case all ready for the holiday :scupa:
so do you find the ZZ works for you.I was thinking of using it too.
I dose start 1.5 twice a day then twice a week with Zfood and Zbak.
I dropped my water changes to 5% a week as the last WC brought my
DKH up to 9 which is a no no on the zeo program.

I find the ZZ cleans the tank up a bit. ZZ is a bit of a strange one, sometimes it cleans the tank (sand whitens the back wall looks cleaner etc) and other times it just looks the same with no change! A lot of people say it helps with cyno but I have not noticed this I have tried doing a larger dose like 1-2 spoon and it didn't do a lot then the next weekend 1/2 spoon and the lower dose looked a bit better. It's quite hard to get an exact dose with the spoon you get with it. I think it might help with the daily carbon dose as I tend to get more skimate after the ZZ dose for the next few days. I got it to try and rid a few patches of cyno when I was using the pellets and it never really did the job, so its rubbish then, no the last thing it says on the tub is "Improves coral growth enormously" and I find it can give my SPS a little boost after dosing.
cool, good info there.see now they say there is a link between cyno blooms and ULNS.they were talking about it on the zeo forum.
were saying that no matter how low your readings where it could still happen.one link posted suggested thats the only
was to reduce it fast was to raise the PH in the tank.
These weedy green Paly's (Protopalythoa.sp) are spreading all over my sand bed. These where introduced to my tank as free zoa from CF's last year. Started out as 1 polyp and now it's multiplying and cropping up all over the sand, as long as they stick to the floor of the tank I don't mind too much.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/SiTimo/July%202011/Iphone42005.jpg
Started adding 2-3 drops of coral vitalizer each night to try and get the colours back a bit. Only been dosing since the middle of last week and not much colour difference but the PE is better with some corals. I have never really noticed any PE on this green Confusa before and I have had it years. It's normally been just smooth and flat, looks happy with the CV to me

you'll have to do us a review for the seneye, timo.
you'll have to do us a review for the seneye, timo.
I will do if the thing ever decides to work! First impressions are very poor with no instructions or guide in the box. I found the slide put it and then placed in the tank and plugged it in to the USB power thing I also had to pay extra for. Then I had to pratt about on their clunky website creating and account which is a bit of a pain. The took me ages to find the user guide on their site and the software. In the guide it tells you to plug it into a PC for an hour, I never did this because their was nothing to tell me to! The only 1 thing sort of working on it is the temp reader so far nothing else works at all, all reading are 0 and nothing is going to the online page! I bought the more expensive Reef one with the light reader but it says it's the Home one on the PC and the light reader is not working! It says in the the guide it takes an hour for the light reader to work, it's been on for about 15 hours now and still nothing!
So far out of 10 (10 being best) it gets a 0 total pants!!!!!!!!!!!
The seneye is now working and it's quite good actually. You need the slide in or you get all weird readings, like when I first posted it read PH 9 and NH3 1 :47: and all my corals would be toast if it actually was. After soaking the slide for 24h and trying to connect it again it's working. With the slide in PH 8.2 and NH3 0.000 which is more like it what I was expecting.
I'm not as  now as I was this morning (wow that's a big smilie). I need to use the thing for a month and al post back how it's doing but for now it's quite cool being able to log on as see you tanks temp, PH, NH3 and also know your lights are on from anywhere with the internet in range

Yeah it was a great location right on the beach mate. It was good and it was very hot all time day and night no matter if the sun was out or not, thankfully the room had 2 AC units and I needed both every night. It's bit lucky to have left then 2 weeks later they got hit by hurricane Irene I guess that's just down to chance.

Fortunate to visit and see Timo`s setup today, rather stunning array of LPS to admire as well as some energetic tangs and a shy butterflyfish. Timo, you get Sadies vote for being a gentleman ( a rare accolade ) and we have much to aspire to with our reefkeeping adventure. The Euphylia head we bought has been dubbed Mr Condom and looks a treat.

This is an odd one for me which I don't fully understand. This is the biggest high and low and the roller coasters go the exact opposite to the PH charts. In the morning the figure is really high then as soon as the lights come on it shoots straight down so I guess it's related to the PH somehow.
Also sold the Acan, Fungia plate, Red Monti cap and a couple of frags which was to buy one SPS coral for all that, but it is a nice one (pic below).

Chris @CCW this is that little Milli I got off you a few months ago. It's gone a little purple and now the tips are going green, I thought it was going to be a red/pink Milli at the time but it's not rarely going that colour well not yet anyway!

how much vsv are you dosing timo? i'm up to 4.4ml as i'm taking it slow. are you dosing bak?Using a bottle of start2 which I got of ebay cheap at the moo until it's used up. I mix/dilute it with RO water (fresh straight out of the pipe) 4 parts Ro to 1 part start2 and my doser dumps in about 10 to 14ml a night so using about 2ml to 2.8ml per day (to 500ltrs) which is possibly a little too much. VSV I would be looking around the 5ml+ amount per night i.e. 50/50 mix with RO. I don't dose back at all now just sponge power and food7 once a week ish.

They are both real characters, I haven't had any clowns in any of my tanks for years then my Dad gave me these when he shut this tank down. With all the blue in my lighting the black and white stripes really stand out quite vivid and look great! A guy who owns a LFS saw my tank and he wanted to buy my pair of clowns off me and I did think about selling them but I would have to wreck my tank to get them and now I really like them. One of my sisters kids named them Pink and Perky BTW.

Thanks James, fingers crossed the new snails will help keep my sand nice and white. In my old nano I have only 1 of them Tongan snails and it did a great job in moving the deep sand around.
One thing I have not notated is I added a small mangrove filter at the side of the tank with a slow flow of water and 5 small mangroves have been added, no leaves as yet but a couple have started root growth. I added them about 2 weeks ago.
Came home Friday night and the skimmer was dead. Put a new fuse in grabbed the pump and got a massive electric shock, shocking! If a pumps not working, take it out only after unplugging at the wall. Lesson learnt the hard way lol. Weird thing the two wires had worn bare where it goes into the pump somehow. I cut then soldered them back then milliputted the whole thing.

The novelty has worn off a bit now. Handy to check what your temp and ph have been running at through the week. I mainly now just check once or twice a week. Still no No3 readings on the digistrip reader which is still not working, which is very disappointing as I got it ages ago now and thought it would be up and running by now!

Hi mate,
Just had a full read of the thread.. What a superb reef set-up. Stuuning SPS, the best I've seen. They look so fat compared to most. You clearly have the knack.
Top job..

I agree, Timo! Your setup is too me admired, well done!
Been struggling with my TMC calcium reactor to keep a constant reading so to make things a bit easier I made a new bubble counter which cost nothing and took about 5mins to make. Still probably want help much but it's much easier to read the bubble count going in than the tiny TMC counter.
