I have an auriga butterfly in with 2 engineer gobys, both are very shy and only really come out of an evening but recently one has been spending most of the day out and one just sticks his head out even at night, I have just had a look behind the rock work as I hadn't seen him for about 24 hours and found half of him is pinky/peachy colour, the butterfly has been skinning him alive. its not the chromis for definite and the other engineer has been in there with it for months, the butterfly has only just gone in about 2 weeks ago and now i find this poor engineer/convict like this, he is still alive and eating but it really cant be pleasant for him and I cant leave him like it without trying to help him. I realise the only way I'm going to remedy the problem is they have to be split but I cant pysically do that untill tomorrow when I cant take either the engineers or the butterfly back to the fish shop who assured m they would live fine together but anything I can do to help him???

ok i made that sound very drastic after re-reading that its not quite as bad as I made it sound!!!!!!!!!1 oops!!!!!!!!
It actually his top fin that has been pecked away he still has his lovely markings all on his body but its about the bottom 2 inches of his top fin that has been eaten and is flesh there he just came out but isnt swimming very well, either cuz he lost a good chunk of his fin or cuz ot hurts or a mixture of both, cant say i can get a picture becasue as soon as you go near the tank he swims as fast as he cant to get away.

ok I cured the root of the problem the engineer in my reef now but cant get the other engineer out of the tank he just goes mad so im hoping the butterfly leave him alone untill we can get him out, not convinced the hurt engineer going to be around by morning he just laying around having a complete wriggling fit when ever any fih oes near him (cant say i blame him i'd be terrified of other fish after that experience, problem remedied however what can i do if anything to help him heal if he even survives as long as the morning

christ, good luck with that mate.
I have just got an engineer myself and its a fabulous fish - it must be heartbreaking for you, but I'm sure you'll sort it. Fingers crossed he pulls through

hi thank you but he died in my reef about an hour ago.

Have rescued the other engineer from the tank and is now digging away inthe reef tank and he is fine but the butterfly is history tomorrow. Have emailed the person at bowaquatics and just waiting for a reply obviously its late now so it wont be tonight but i cant sleep feel awful for the poor little mite, he was only £9 as my mother reminded me on the phone tonight but its not the point, the poor engineer was in there first before the butterfly and he just been tortured in his own home.

The butterfly will be history tomorrow, I'm not gonna risk him doing that to anything else.
