My tank is about 8 weeks old and I have noticed two half pipes against the glass. The tubes are sand grains cemented together and about 25mm or 1 inch long. You can see something moving inside that is approx 1cm long with beating legs/appendages. At first glance they look a bit like immature shrimp but very hard to see and imposible to photograph.

Any ideas of what they could be?

Sound like pods of some description or other. One of my favourite Reefkeeping articles is on pods, have a read through it and see if you can spot them:

Yep,

Agree with Gilly, pod of some sort. :)

Thanks for ideas - there is a little green algae on the glass inside the half tube so it is difficult to get a clear view - I would have to destroy the tube to see but hey, they are cool for the minute - will keep an eye on them though.
