Hi all,

I have 5 Blue/Green Chromis and I have always meant to ask, but somehow forgot. D'oh!!!

Anyway, my question, 3 of the 5 have light blue moustaches, see pic below, are these the males/females?

Here you can see one side of the blue moustache, looks like an arrow from the middle of the eye towards the mouth.

Ta,

did'nt realise you could sex them this way?

I am not sure you can either. Just woindering if this was male/female or if they are slightly different species/hybrids?

Not certain either. Have they spawned yet at all? I've heard of several people having chromis spawn in their tanks but not heard of anyone raising the fry.

Hi Gilly,

They haven't spawned as they are still juveniles, the largest is about 2.5 inches-ish. I have only had them since March '06

Och well, give them time then. Are they the same species as UDA have in their display tank - the 3-4" behemoths? If so, they are going to be a cracking shoal once they grow up :D

Hi Gilly,

I am not sure, I don't remember seeing the ones at UDA but I will see them, if UDA still have them, next Saturday when I go up.

Anyway, I'll try to get some more pics of the differences between the 5 I have and post them up.

UDA have had a few of those chromis for at least the 2.5 years that we've been keeping marines and going up there. I think Andrew said they were from the Red Sea or something like that and grow bigger than the usual chromis you see for sale. They are in the display tank with the gorgeous green bubble that's in their marine fish room. They've also got a D&D Nano Cube set up next to it as a display tank too.
