Sounds like you need a decent shop to go to Mike.
With your parameters up and down as they are, you really do need to get all the other livestock into another tank/system ASAP.

Hi Mike as said by Mr TEEE you need another LFS, Is there only one where you live if so jump on your bike and find another as you need to rehouse your fish PDQ. Its a pity you are'nt nearer me i could have quarantined them for you. Please take notice what we are telling you as you will end up with no fish as at all if you leave them in your tank. Your tank sounds like its going through a cycle with having ammonia present and it will wipe your fish out if they are not moved soon. HTH. Eric

Agreed, i'm so surprised you got that response from your lfs Mike.
I thought it would have been a nice quick easy option for you when I mentioned it in your 'polyfilter' thread, all 3 of my lfs's offer the service at about £2 a day to 'rent' a tank, Fish, shrimps, crabs, LR, you name it all in for £2 a day.

hi mike, gotta agree with the above, those fish need to be out! not gonna go over old ground but get the fish out, you have a great sized tank and it will be fantastic, you just need to step back to go forward again.
first off, find a new lfs, if i went to a lfs and asked for some help and they refused (esp if i bought the stock from them)there is no way i would buy something from them, id sooner mail order.
sell the fish on here or on aquarist classified(sorry if im not supposed to mention that, delete if need be) you'll shift them no probs.
water tests
are you sure your nitrite kits okay? you should have a reading if you have ammonia, in fact id expect it to be high.
phosphate, have you used enough of the kent sponge, ive used that and my po4 was 0 the next day?
you need to phosphate levels down, then the battle will begin with the algae and cyano and thats another tough nut to crack, but beatable!
to sum up, find a new lfs, get the live stock out, do a large water change, check the po4/no4 on the ro water and salt mix too
best of luck

Out of interest, Does your RO unit have a DI filter too?
Or is your RO from your lfs?
