I know it's not much to go on but can anyone ID this crab? It sure doesn't look good

cheers
Olly

ps...watched it for about an hour last night (pretty sad huh?) but it wasn't interested in coming out of its rock. And this morning of course the little crabby sod has done a bunk!

Hi Lilyann,

It's kind of hard to gauge the size because i can only see it through the curved frontage of the tank which makes it look HUGE :)

I've tried every way I know to get a better picture but the curve of the glass is causing a few problems. I wanted to try and get a good pic of it's claws.

Generally speaking, it looks hairy and it's a brownish grey with black stripes on it's legs (how vague could a description be?!)

I'm tempted to just try and fish it out before I put any livestock in and start losing them to a peckish crab!

if in doubt - sump it :D

a blocked end tube with some food in it may tempt it to move house :)

i wouldnt risk keeping it in unless you can accuratly id it as if it turns out to be a teddy bear you may big trouble later on.i nearly let one into my tank not so long ago but luckly spotted it hiding in the zoas i was acclimatizing and pulled the sucker out.:D
