View Full Version : Tommi tang giving fireball angels a hard time.
Yesterday I bought a pair of fireball angels one of my fav fish if not my fav(I did have a pair in my chromis but they didnt survive the move to my new tank http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif) that is a mnale and female as I believe they don't actually form bonded pairs. I have a 3" plus Tommi tang Ctenochaetus tomiensis who is boss fish in my tank. I bought him when very small and have watched him grow into a very nice fish indeed in fact at his size the best I have seen.
So far he don't lke my fireballs and is giving them a hard time. The fireballs are staying over to the far right of my tank and just pop out now and again only for said Tommi to chace them off. http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/images/smilies/annoyed.gif To be perfectly honest I always thought that one day Mr Tommi would have to go as IMO he will far out grow my tank. I have a fish trap I could catch him in ... I hope.
The thing is do I catch him now and put him up for sale on here as I run the risk of him casusing the fireballs some real damage. He really needs to go into a tank where hes not top dog I think. What ya recon guys he is a superb example? I will try and get an up to date pic soon.

Hi Les an old trick is a mirror on the outside of the tank so the Tang can see it and try and fight his self. Tominis are little twats and need to be added last like any Tang, but hey i have the same problem with my bristletooth and my Flame Angel i bought last Saturday , they are settling down after a week now and hopefully ill get on. HTH Twiggy:D:D

Cheers for that Twiggy. You do have a far bigger tank than I do and I will have to get shut of my Tommi sooner or later it's just that it maybe better soon at the mo. I love fireballs and a pair cos me a few bob far more than my Tommi did. I think I know the answer i'm just putting it off as the Tommi is such a nice fish in all other respects.

Not £40 a pair Noooooo I wish but less than that each I did get a discount though and as they just had 2 in one I am sure a female I had to have them. I have my fish trap in the tank now, I will leave it there a few days before baiting it but if he continues to harass the fireballs I will have to bait it and try and catch him sooner. The only problem then is selling him to a good home and to somebody with a larger tank than mine something like a 5x2x2 or bigger. He is very nice though but needs a tank where hes not top dog at least at first.

Thanks Derek, I think i'm going to need a bit of luck and a few days before he will go in it then even more luck to spring the trap and catch him.
I caught my blue trigger with the feeding with a net trick. After about two weeks of defrosting food in a net then floating in the tank one day he jumped in the net lol I was not even tiring to catch him that day :D
Caught, sold paid for and collected and gone to a good home and large tank. :) I will miss it though as it was a great fish. :frown:
