Hey All
I have a toadstool that was rescued from a closed down tank but seems the coral wasnt fixed down in anyway for some time, the "stump" which is all thats left is healed over but is too small to wedge in rock work as the head is a good 4" across and its just getting blown away, any ideas on how to fix this down for good? tried elastic bands with no joy...just wondering if the xenia trick will work on leathers and put a toothpick through the stump for a more stable fix?
Any other options are more than welcome...gotta give the little fella a chance :)

Tooth pick idea would work.
A large dollop of superglue gel would also work, The toadstool would only have to be out of the water a short while to let the glue dry.

Hi Adam,
expand on super glue idea please - what type, do you have to remove the rock to apply ?
The reef poxy stuff I am using is C**P!

Use superglue gel only, and make sure that it is made from cynoacrylate (usually on the back of the bottle) as this is reefsafe.
Take the frag/coral/whatever in waynes case a stump of a toadstool and apply a generous blob.
Then I use the alfagrog stuff they use for filter media in koi filter setups to stick it to. Bit of glue on that and then hold them together for a few mins.
You then have the coral attached to a resonable sized (golf ball size) bit of rock that you can then use the milluput type stuff to stick to the rockwork in the tank.
The alfagrog colours up nicely and blends in quickly. And it is quit easy to brak off the larger piece of live rock if you need to for whatever reason.
Ihave 2 of these, and propped them between 2 bits of live rock, within a quick period of time they had attached to the rock, and now look like they have been there years.

I tried the glue routine but for some reason the leather sheds the bottom of the stalk as if rejecting it? dont know why...twice now, alfagrog is a good idea, i have about 15kgs doing nothing :) i will try one more time thens its toothpick im afraid, not keen on that idea but im running out of stalk :p
Kev as i said the stalk is more of a stump now so everytime i wedge it in the head opens up and the current pulls it out before the leather gets a hold....dont know why the last keeper let it roam around for so long....
The tooth picks should cause no long lasting damage!

i have been having the same problem with my toadstool and manged to get some deltec reef putty and attach it.
procedure
1.find a spot where u would like the coral to go
2.apply the reef putty to the coral and place a bit on the rock
3.use an elastic band to keep it secure and leave for a day
4.sit back and enjoy

Toads are very easy to attach.
Re-cut at the base to promote growth, stick a toothpick through and tie the ends to a small pice of rock with elastic bands. I suggest leaving for a few weeks as they can take a while at settle. Also place on the bottom for a while and keep a decent flow to remove mucus that does shed when fragging etc.
Never had a failure with this method but some take longer than others.
Good luck,
