I've been thinking about re-doing my tank rockwork. I've picked up some nice LR over time but, some of it is quite big, 6kg or so a rock.

Any reason why I can't break it into smaller pieces to give some more (bloody hell, now i'm gonna sound like some nancy boy BBC2 interior design host)
artistic scope :-D

Just want to check in case I miss the obvious.

Cant see any reason why not just as long as it isnt allowed to dry out while you are 'focussing your artistic vision' before you go to work with your hammer.

Agree, can't see a problem with breaking up bits of lr. Was going to do this myself until I found somewhere that sold great lr rubble and saved me the hassle.

Just be careful when breaking them apart though and keep an eye out for beasties. Might be a good idea to wear gloves in case there are a few fireworms etc.

Hi

A hammer will be fine and you will find that a lot of LR is pretty easy to break.

I have done this when i wanted to frag some sps and use LR as a base.

Breaking it up with a hammer is OK as long as it doesn't dry out!

I used to break up live rock all the time at the shop for putting frags on - a hammer and chisel works great, but gloves are definitely a good idea - expect crabs, bristleworms etc!
