hello i have a 80l tank that has been set up for 6 weeks. i have live rock and a finger leather coral. i am going to get some more coral on saturday. i have two percula clowns in my tank. is it ok to keep seahorses in the tank the with the clowns? as i am getting mixed messages if they will be ok or not. if it is safe to have them with the clowns could you please tell how long i should wait till i get the sea horses. sorry about all the questions :D
One of the problems is the clown's are a lot faster than the seahorses so when you put some food in the seahorse can end up missing out. Seahorses do better on there own as they can feed on all the food in their own time.

i think seahorses need to be feed regular as food passes throw them very quickly they are a lot slower then clowns so its best to keep them on there own hth:)

i actually feed my clown fish frozen shrimp. they eat about half of it and the rest ends up being left because they dont eat it all so maybe the seahorses would eat or am i missing the point? i am going to wait a few months so my tank is more mature.
Your over feeding if there is any food left over after about 2 mins.

i feed them the frozen food that comes in little cubes i put that in and what they dont eat i remove. would it be better if i try and cut the frozen cube in half and give them that. i feed them a small amount of flake food in the morning and the frozen shrimp on the afternoon

Hi if a cube is to much for them in one day, put the rest in a sealable container and put it in the fridge for the next day HTH Twiggy:D

Hi you will have to make sure the Seahorses get plenty to eat as they dont have a stomach and need feeding 5 or 6 times a day with small amounts. If they clowns jump in and pinch all the food, then you will have to feed the horses some more. It will be a case of try it and see as not all fish are the same and if they dont pinch all the food thats fine. HTH Twiggy:D

In my experiance you will have problems with keeping clowns and seahorses together for the reasons already given, you will find the clowns will eat all the food before the horses get chance to eat.
Seahorses are much better in a tank of there own or with fish that are very quite.

ohh getting very mixed messages. when people told me about clowns they made me think they will be boistrous but my two clowns are very quiet and calm. if i do get sea horses i wont be getting them until another couple of months so have a while to gather information and think about it.

Never mind the clowns-if you have corals in the tank you WILL need reasonable flow. Seahorses won't cope with the flow of a reef tank-Either set up a dedicated horse tank or leave them alone.:D Are the clowns the only fish you have?

To use your live rock as filtration you need a good powerful flow ( 20x turnover) but this is way to much for seahorses.

I must agree, not to mention the nitrate problem you will end up with ,putting all that food in your tank !

i have 2 percs in with 3 seahorses i get rnd the feeding problem by training the horses to take their food from a small glass cup, the cup is put on the tank bottom the food is defrosted in salt water, i then use my turkey baster to put food into the cup. eventually the seahorses have learnt to get their food there and whatever they miss the percs and clean up crew take.
take in mind seahorses need feeding at least 3 times a day as they have no stomach so heavy water changes are needed weekly.

to feed seahorses you can use a tube that is open at the surface and drops into the tank and down near the bottom,
place the frzen food in the top and as it defrosts it will sink and fall to the seahorses with out any other tank mates getting it
