Hi Andy MR TEEE has one that eats New Era pellets, its all down to the individual fish. You usually need a lot of good LR with loads of pods for Manderins. Twiggy:grouphug:

found it, melev has his mandarin feeding on pellets also. it is possible to wean them onto frozen / pellet / flake by using a diner type thing and adding some live brine or baby brine to encourage the feeding response.

enjoy!!

Keep it in a breeding net or a small tank and feed live brine shrimp, slowly over a few days add some frozen brine in with the live, then after a few more days add frozen mysis with the live stuff.

Once it is feeding on just frozen food release it into the tank. :)

mine eats pellets quite often. As said individual fish will have different eating habits alittle like certain humans eating tunnocks!:grouphug:

I used to have one that loved frozen mysis. It wasn't keen on frozen brine shrimp though.......
I have a healthy pod population but it always showed interest when I was feeding mysis to the other fish.

Mine eats frozen lobster eggs which I feed to it in a small jam jar which only it can get into. As soon as I fill it it is in there gorging itself, fantastic to watch! :D

very clever indeed! I've heard they do well off feeding stations.
I used to try and spot feed it frozen but they are jumpy things. I noticed they show decent memory (so to speak) so when it saw the baster full of frozen shrimpy goodness in the water, it would wait in generally the same area. Mind you, I had to make sure the other greedy guts in the tank were already feeding as mandarins are notoriously slow to eat their dinner.
They like to look at stuff from 3 angles before they have a pop at it...
love em though, but I dont think I'd get another one for the forseeable future.
