the animal in the top pick looks very orange so i would say fireworm
would it be possiable to get a more close up pic

the worm on the left is a fireworm the one on the right is the bristleworm

As Callum has said it is really difficult to I.d a creature without a closeup.

Unless you have any reason to beleive it is a fireworm? I would just assume its a bristle worm and not worry about it. It shows you have some good diversity in the critters in your tank.

I have struggled to find any bristleworms in my tank for ages.

I have struggled to find any bristleworms in my tank for ages.

I've noticed an upsurge of them in my tank over the last few weeks, they've always lived under the LR but feeding time is bringing them out from all over the rock, i've got one monster about 6 inch's long (behave at the back :D )

lol - I've got hundreds of bristleworms in my tanks. I had always understood that these kind were just good additions to the clean up crew.

I accidentally put a monsta 8" bristleworm in Ian's new mantis tank (it was curled up inside a piece of liverock) and he's now convinced that its going to eat his mantis :D

Well a couple of days after posting this i.e. this morning, I find a bristleworm at least 8" long sprawled over one of my rocks at the front.

This must mean that there is more behind the scenes that I am not seeing.

They all seem to come out at night.

The old torch shows a completely different world after lights out. Sumps are also alive, great fun.

since setting up again
(after 15 yrs) i have found loads of these.they come out at night or when i feed the fish.
when i last had a tank i was told to get them out, spent ages with tweesers in hand plucking them out.
now been told leave them as there part of the system ( cleaning up etc).
i do seem to have quite a few.
and some are big.
are they ok ?
are they bristle or fire ?

Steve, as Ian has said, lovely bristleworm it is.

IMO they won't get tooo big to cause trouble, (unless its 6 foot).

It will be a great addition to any clean up crew.

I think they have a bad rep due to looking ugly, peoples conception of anything ugly is that it can't be beneficial in a tank. Another age old example of word of mouth spreading facts that are simply not true.

hi.
they do seem to clean up every thing, like you said very very ugly though.
have found 3-4 all over snail was a bit worried but later the snails shell was all clear of any algae etc.
they do seem to have a big mouth as seen one dragging a shrimp stick away.
have no problem leaving them there as they seem to cause no trouble.
thanks for your advice.

I didn't notice any worms in my tank for at least a year. Now the sump is full of them. I'll gladly send you a few in the spring when the weather's warmer, if you like. Then you won't feel so left out ;)
