evening all, when i joined this site i said i had a question on Cal,Mag and Alk, i will explain what i mean.
i do a 10% PWC using D+D H2ocean every sunday (45litres). all my Cal,Alk amd Mag levels was very good, Cal 440ppm,Alk 9.6dkh, Mag 1400ppm. i only had 3 LPS and loads of softies.
about 3 weeks ago i added 3 more LPS and 2 sps, so i started to wonder if and when i would need to add supplements.
so i tested the water for the last 6 days since last PWC day. here are the results.
Sunday 28th... CAL 400ppm, Mag 1260ppm, Alk 8.6dkh-3.09meq/l, Ph 8.2
Monday 29th... " " 395ppm, " " 1350ppm, " " 8.5dkh-3.02meq/l, " " 8.2
Tues 30th.. " " 390ppm, Mag 1260ppm, " " 7.4dkh-2.63meq/l , Ph 8.2
Wed 31th.. " " 390ppm, Mag 1260ppm, Alk 8.0dkh-2.86meq/l, Ph 8.2
Thurs 1st... Cal 390ppm, Mag 1260ppm, Alk 7.0dkh-2.51meq/l, Ph 8.2
Fri 2nd... Cal 380ppm, Mag 1245ppm, Alk 7.0dkh-2.51meq/l, Ph 8.2

i have another 2 days before a PWC so the levels will drop a little more, so heres the question should i be add supplements and if so what?

i have some Purple Up, Salifert All In One, and some Kent Liquid Calcium but not used any, i have used kenk dkh buffer before but i have read they are all only quick fix solution.
so if it was your tank what would you all do?
sorry if its abit long winded.
thanks will.

may be a good idea to test the water you use in your water change to find out what levels that has , then add what you need if anything is necessary hth :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:

Your cal will slowly fall the cheapest way to keep it up is to use some lab grade Calcium Hydroxide and your Mag will fall so you will need to add a sup to keep it up.

I used to add Calcium Hydroxide and Reef ad magnesium to keep my levels up but got feed up with all the mixing and adding so got a calcium reactor and all are more stable now and less to do. Other than a cal reactor there is the balling method.

thanks timo, i got some mag supplement and some kalk mix from 6 hills today. looked on a web page and made a DIY kalk dripper, will start dripping early next week. abit of trial and error of the drips and hopefully i will get there.
