as long as they are not physically attacking it all the time they should eventually accept it, if not then you would have to remove it.french angels are one of the fastest growing & will eventually grow to in excess of 12in, so unless your tank is over 300galls better not to have it at all.derek

na not physically attacking it the rock cod gets right next to it with mouth open but does not bite it.. when it decides to the angel moves towards it and it goes away... but it is just sitting in the corner not eating. does anyone know where I can get a cheap tank divider?

hi all well I managed to get it separated no problems using egg crate.. perfect. But it did not eat no matter what I put in with it and today it died a second one in two weeks the first was a spiny box and the second the french angel. the angel had a small bit of torn fins but was real good black and had bright yellow stripes... Have tested the water and everything is fine indeed all the rest of the fish are bright and colorful and eating very well.... Am on the verge if shuting it down and possibly going back to tropical or buy a lizard I am getting really pi**ed of with this.... I had tropical for over 10 years no problems!

You already have some very aggressive fish in your tank and the stress of going in with them is obviously too much for your new fish. If your existing fish are ok then it's nothing you are doing wrong. How big is your tank? Is it the Rio 300?

Hi what gallonage is your tank as marine fish want 6 gallons of water for every inch of fully grown fish/ Keeping large fish in any smaller tank is asking for trouble, they might only be small when you put them in but soon grow and get stressed with being in a small place. As a guide for a fish only system i would say you need at least 200 to 300 gallon tank to give them a feeling of space, and with a tank that size you will need a large skimmer to take out waste etc and also a efficient filteration system like a bio tower. I would say you are at maximum capacity+ with what you have. You'll be surprised how quickly your fish grow. I would put off adding any more fish until you upgrade. The rock cod will get to 14" in a short time and 300 litres is far too small for a brown tang imo. With the fish you have you're going to need a 6x2x2 at least in the near future so save you pennies for the upgrade and enjoy the fish you have. Obviously just my opinion though.:icon_wink:

As already said above if it was me i would stop adding fish until you have upgraded, in my opinion you are maxed out on space for the fish you have already, your system sounds to be running ok as your existing livestock are ok, after buying two animals which have died fairly quickly does indicate a problem with adding more livestock to your existing inhabitants.
I was once advised to always reseach any fish i was thinking of adding to my system this way it saves wasteing your money and the cost of an animals life.
As you now know fish are not cheap to buy and it really hacks you off when anything happens to them, instead of asking others opinions on what fish to add to your system read up on anything you would like to add and reseach the compatabilty with your existing animals and it will save you a small fortune.
Just my own opinion Chris

the purpose of a forum is to ask other people questions, provide information and the like. Inexperienced people like myself ask others for support, thats why I goto a proper lfs and ask there help after all if you tell them what you have currently got and provide required information after all that is there job. Its like saying my car is broken don't goto the garage and fix it your self when after all thats what the mechanics are for. It looks like I have been given bad information by the lfs, a well known one, I shall not be going there again!

To be honest i stopped trusting lfs and always ask on here if i'm thinking of getting anything. Far too many shops just want to sell their stock especially in this economic climate. I wouldn't trust any of my local shops (Leeds).
