Carried out my usual weekly 20% water change this morning and then have done the water tests this afternoon everything was fine apart from Nitrates 100ppm:icon_cry: today was the first time i used new test kit (salifert) have been using API. 2 things come to mind yesterday had to badly disturb the sand bed to remove the carpet nem so have i caused a spike, is it the trickle tower :icon_question: tests on Ammonia & Nitrite are 0 but again these are with API. going to get salifert test kits for Am & Ni. will test again tommorow apart from more water changes what else can i do :icon_question: do i need to have a nitrate reactor running :icon_question:

Good circulation around good liverock should help nitrates. Whenyou say trickle tower do you mean bio balls and floss. If so then these will be causing high nitrates. hth

my turnover is x34 the trickle tower is something i've only had with this tank, i have water going from the sump through my UV steriliser then into the trickle tower (bio balls no floss) into sump. it is something that comes with all fit filtration tanks i believe. should i remove the bio balls and put live rock rubble in :icon_question:

If You were to remove the bio balls. do so a little at a time. over a few weeks and replace with LR rubble. Also your nitrates may have been high for a while a,p,i are not one of the best kits. As with the others plenty of flow and regular water changes.:icon_lol:

have ordered new test kits, would be interested in others opinion regards Trickle tower (useful to have or not) remember Chris (Reef Ranch) once saying that he poured fresh water over his bio balls to remove nitrate
